PS2 LAUNCH TITLES

It's been a long wait but the Playstation 2 has finally hit Australia today, November 30 2000. The system that will provide the most breathtaking games in future as well as the first DVD player for millions of people worldwide will be a huge success. But the launch day will cause a lot of grief for people, and that includes people who get a system. Some of the biggest choices will be what games to get. Well, in this special feature Future Gamez has a list of every launch title as well as a preview. If you want to know more about a game before buying it, look no further then this article.

Name: AquaAqua
Players: 1-2
Rating: G
Another puzzle game, which is actually a sequel to Wetrix on Nintendo 64. The original game appeared only a couple of years ago. This game should sell at a lower RRP of $69.96, but don't take that as a sign that the game is inferior in any way. It's great.

Name: Fantavision
Players: 1-2
Rating: G
One of the most addictive puzzle games in years is probably one of the most spectacular. Taking control of a fireworks display you have to link colored fireworks together in combos.

Name: FIFA 2001
Players: 1-4
Rating: G
Electronic Arts' first FIFA installment on Playstation 2 looks like a winner. Hopefully the game can retain the gameplay from previous titles which have been a favorite of gamers for some time now.

Name: Gradius III & IV
Players: 1-2
Rating: G8+
Konami's classic shooter series comes to the Playstation 2. While many would expect a super fast conversion reports from Europe are that the game is a little too easy but on the hard difficulty the game is plagues with slowdown.

Name: NHL 2001
Players: 1-4
Rating: G8+
Let's face it. Ice Hockey isn't the most popular sport here in Australia. But that doesn't mean the games aren't worth looking at. In fact Ice Hockey makes an magnificent game conversion. Fortunately EA know how to make a great game based on the NHL. Check it out.

Name: Orphen: Scion of Sorcery
Players: 1
Rating: M15+
With the delay of Summoner (until 2001) this is the only true RPG expected at launch. While it may not appeal to the mainstream anime and RPG fans should get some enjoyment from this title from the developers of the Lunar series of games.

Name: Ready 2 Rumble: Round 2
Players: 1-2
Rating: G8+
The hit game from last years Dreamcast launch is already back as a sequel. With many more fighters and the same frantic gameplay Ready 2 Rumble: Round 2 should be considered. If you own the original however, it may seem all too familiar.

Name: Ridge Racer V
Players: 1-2
Rating: G
Namco's highly regarded racing series was an obvious choice for Playstation 2 launch title worldwide. People should respond to the familiar series, which unfortunately is crippled with huge black borders due to PAL formatting.

Name: Silent Scope
Players: 1
Rating: MA15+
Silent Scope is an interesting conversion to the home in that the arcade light gun game doesn't have a light gun option at home. Still it's a great game which, even with the controller, is remarkably addictive.

Name: Smuggler's Run
Players: 1-2
Rating: MA15+
One of the hottest games on PS2, not only due to the awesome graphics, but the general premise of smuggling items such as drugs and even kidney's is just so cool. Expect this game to cause some debate.

Name: SSX
Players: 1-4
Rating: G
The most talked about Playstation 2 game is probably this one, SSX. With some amazing graphics, fast action and an wicked sound track Electronic Arts have proven that they can stray from a formulatic approach.

Name: Tekken Tag Tournament
Players: 1-2
Rating: M15+
With the addition of anti-ailising Tekken Tag Tournament has lost it's "Tekken JAG Tournament" moniker given with the Japanese version. Unfortunately the game doesn't add a lot more from previous versions, but Nina, Eddie and Yoshimitsu never looked this good.

Name: TimeSplitters
Players: 1-4
Rating: MA15+
Without a doubt TimeSplitters is one of the hottest launch titles. With no Unreal Tournament or Quake III available, FPS fans will have to settle for this game. In many ways this game is superior then the others anyway.

Name: Wild Wild Racing
Players: 1-2
Rating: G
Rage's first game on the Playstation 2 is this racing game. With some huge levels to race in and a variety of levels it looks like Interplay made the right move bringing the game into Australia.
