2011 FUTUREGAMEZ AWARDS
~ PART 3 ~
Finally we get to the third and final part of the 2011 Futuregamez.net Awards in which we pick the best graphics and sound for games on the PS3. Unfortunatly we have dropped those categories for the PSP as, to be honest, we could count the PSP games we played on one hand.
Then we get to the big one, the Best Overall Game Of 2011 and the runners-up. If you missed Part 1 or Part 2 of the awards where the best of 2011 including best developers, peripheral and games in each genre were awarded then I would suggest you go there to check out the other winners first. If you've checked them out then read on...
Best Sound in a PS3 Game
Winner: Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception (Naughty Dog)
There were a lot of great looking games visually now that developers have truly, or should that be finally, gotten to grips with the complex PS3 hardware. Audio quality isn't just on a technical level, but also on the quality of the surround sound, the composition of the music and the delivery of the dialogue. On all those fronts Naughty Dog deliver a nigh-on perfect experience. If you have a decent surround sound package then this game will be a treat while the voice acting puts most big-budget Hollywood movies to shame.
Runners Up: Killzone 3 (Guerrilla Games), Mass Effect 2 (Bioware).
Best Graphics in a PS3 Game
Winner: Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception (SCEA Santa Monica)
Ahh the debates one could have about this topic. Sure, perhaps L.A. Noire has some of the best facial animation ever seen, perhaps Mass Effect 2 has some of the most unique worlds and characters ever built, Modern Warfare 3, Killzone 3 and Battlefield 3 some of the most intense battlefields ever. But Naughty Dog has all of these elements and then some. It has some of the best visuals we've ever seen, but even with that extreme level also manages to throw in support for 3DTV's! It truly is the pinnacle of graphics on the PS3 that we've seen to date. What more can developers wrangle out of the aging hardware? We dare to imagine.
Runners Up: Rayman Origins (Ubisoft Montpellier), L.A. Noire (Team Bondi).
BEST OVERALL GAME OF 2011
WINNER: Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception
Developer: Naughty Dog
Release Date: 3/11/2011
Despite the fact that this game took out the Best Graphics and Best Sound it still wasn't a shoe-in for the big prize. But despite the fact that there were so many great games this year that deserve this award, there can only be one winner and our nod goes to Naughty Dog's action/adventure title which not only sets new benchmarks for audio visual quality, but includes a wonderful game, and a swag of online gameplay options as well.
Some may question how this franchise has managed to get Game of the Year in every year of it's release and the answer is simple. Every iteration has seen a massive boost to areas of the game. The first game was brilliant, the second added a much richer story, great co-op modes and vastly improved visuals. This third game ups the visual quality again, throws in 3DTV support, and builds a multiplayer mode well worth your time. It's another massive plus for Sony and their system which deserves every one of the millions of copies sold.
Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception is a worthy winner of the 2011 Futuregamez Game of the Year.
Runners Up: Mass Effect 2 (PS3, Bioware), The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (PS3, Bethesda), Rayman: Origins (PS3, Ubisoft Montpellier), L.A. Noire (PS3, Team Bondi), Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (PS3, Infinity Ward), Dark Souls (PS3, From Software), Portal 2 (PS3, Valve).
