~ PART 3 ~

Finally we get to the third and final part of the 2010 Futuregamez.net Awards in which we pick the best graphics and sound for games on the PSP and PS3. Then we get to the big one, the Best Overall Game Of 2010 and the runners-up. If you missed Part 1 or Part 2 of the awards where the best of 2010 including best developers, peripheral and games in each genre were awarded then I would suggest you go there to check out the other winners first. If you've checked them out then read on...

Note: Sadly, due to the lack of releases since early 2008, we have decided to drop the Best Graphics and Best Sound for PS2 from consideration.

Best Sound in a PSP Game
Winner: God of War: Ghost of Sparta (Ready at Dawn/SCEA Santa Monica)
2010 was an interesting year for the PSP. Sadly there really was a decline in the quantity of software for the system, however there were some game released that still stood out as quality products worth dusting off the console. In terms of audio we were hard pressed to think of anything that pushed this latest God of War title from developers Ready at Dawn and SCEA Santa Monica. Kratos still sounds deadly, as do the weapons and the dialogue sounds superb too. Throw in some great music and this was the clear winner.
Runners Up: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (Kojima Productions), Silent Hill: Shattered Memories (Climax Studios).

Best Graphics in a PSP Game
Winner: God of War: Ghost of Sparta (Ready at Dawn/SCEA Santa Monica)
While the audio for this title was superb, the graphics are even more impressive with some of the most detailed levels, gorgeous enemy design and animation and cut-scenes. If this is the last great year for the PSP then this game will likely be remembered as the pinnacle of visuals on Sony's first handheld platform.
Runners Up: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (Kojima Productions), Valkyria Chronicles II (Sega).

Best Sound in a PS3 Game
Winner: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (MercurySteam)
Something that gets overlooked by many with the PS3 is the strength of the audio which far exceeds that of the XBox 360 on a technical level. But that's not the only component as great audio needs well composed and performed music, great dialogue and solid effects. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow from MercurySteam has all that in spades with some of the best orchestral music we've ever heard in a video game and a voice cast to die for. Coming out of left field we didn't expect much, but this game impressed us the most with its audio in 2010.
Runners Up: Call of Duty: Black Ops (Treyarch), DJ Hero 2 (Freestyle Games).

Best Graphics in a PS3 Game
Winner: God of War III (SCEA Santa Monica)
With developers now firmly at grips with the PS3's architecture we are starting to see games that, only years ago, would have looked great in a pre-rendered movie at the cinemas. God of War III hit all the right notes with a super slick graphics engine developed in-house at SCEA Santa Monica and artistry rarely seen in a video game. This really is an exceptional looking title that is a worth winner for Best Graphics in an PS3 Game for 2010.
Runners Up: Final Fantasy XIII (Square-Enix), Red Dead Redemption (Rockstar San Diego).

Developer: SCEA Santa Monica
Publisher: Sony
Distributer: Sony
Release Date: 18/3/2010

2010 was a pretty brilliant year for games on the PS3 and indeed the three reviewers (Michael, Chris and myself) all had different opinions about which should win Game of The Year. In the end though there can only be one winner and for 2010 we have selected SCEA Santa Monica's brilliant third outing in the God of War franchise.

Not only is this franchise a key one for Sony and their systems, but impressively the titles continue to outdo the previous one in the franchise, despite the Directors David Jaffe and Corey Barlog leaving after each of their first two titles. This third game was Directed by Stig Asmussen and nailed every aspect of a classic game - brilliant gameplay, gorgeous visuals, engaging sound and plenty of replayability.

God Of War III is a worthy winner of the 2010 Futuregamez Game of the Year.

Runners Up: Red Dead Redemption (PS3, Rockstar San Diego), Assassin's Creed Brotherhood (PS3, Ubisoft Montreal), Heavy Rain (PS3, Quantic Dreams), DJ Hero 2 (PS3, Freestyle Games), Call of Duty: Black Ops (PS3, Treyarch), God of War: Ghost of Sparta (PSP, Ready at Dawn/SCEA Santa Monica), Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (PS3, MercurySteam).
