Electronic Arts' Medal of Honor series has had some dramatic ups and downs since it's debut in 1999. Some games have been quite superb including the first PS2 title, Medal of Honor: Frontline, while others such as Medal of Honor: Rising Sun were very average at best. While Electronic Arts is preparing Medal of Honor: Airborne for next-gen systems (and it's looking pretty sweet we might add) the company has also announced Medal of Honor: Heroes for the PSP.
The game is interesting in that you will experience a wide range of moment through several characters we spent time with in previous games. In Medal of Honor Heroes you will play as Lieutenant Jimmy Patterson (Medal of Honor and Medal of Honor Frontline) in an untold chapter of his time in Holland as part of Operation Market Garden, Sergeant John Baker (Medal of Honor Allied Assault Breakthrough) to sabotage German defenses on the Italian coastline to help the invasion forces crack Hitler's iron hold on Europe and don the officer's cap of Lieutenant William Holt (Medal of Honor European Assault) to return to the Ardennes Forest during the Battle of the Bulge to complete unfinished business for the OSS.

With an entirely unique storyline and PSP-specific feature set, players will experience a totally new single player campaign across 12 unique environments. As well as single player Medal of Honor Heroes allows gamers to choose from six different Multiplayer modes within 15 different maps, while participating in wireless Multiplayer sessions with up to 32 players. Or choose to play with up to 8 players across the room in a local Ad hoc game. "Quickplay" missions in skirmish game mode, allow players to jump right into the action or customize mission scenarios for added re-playability. Relive your favorite Medal of Honor moments by unlocking over 20 classic characters to use in multiplayer games.
Admittedly we're not overly keen on the visuals in Medal of Honor Heroes. The early screens are quite barren in terms of level detail - even below that of the first PS2 title and the character models also rather basic. Still there's plenty of time for EA Canada to bump the game up a few notches. The ability to play as many of the most popular characters from previous games is a plus, but the real clincher could be the 8-player Ad Hoc and 32-player online modes which, if there aren't major lag issues, could make this a worthwhile purchase. Keep an eye out for a November release.
