Graphics really are spectacular!
When it comes to racing games there are two kings on the Playstation 2. The first is the king of the simulations - Gran Turismo. Unfortunately for PSP owners the release of Gran Turismo Mobile is still very much up in the air with a non-appearance at this years E3 show indicating that it may not be released this year. The second king of racing game is for the arcade genre - Burnout. Without a doubt Criterion's title is king of the race racers it's lightning fast and the gameplay absolutely engrossing.

Texturing looks superb.
Burnout: Legends is an interesting title in that it includes tracks and crash junctions from Burnout, Burnout 2: Point of Impact and Burnout 3: Takedown. These tracks are being redesigned for aggressive racing on the PSP. Not only will the game include reworked tracks from all three games but will also include nine gameplay modes, including Crash, Pursuit, Burning Lap, Road Rage, Eliminator, Race, Time Attack, Legends Face-Off and Legends GP.

Expect more wonderful crashes.
One of the all time favourite modes - the Crash Mode - makes a welcome return to this game, albeit with some minor changes. Primarily a new scoring system has been implemented and does away with multipliers, challenging gamers to strategically launch their car into traffic in search of the biggest, Hollywood-style crashes imaginable. The Persuit Mode also returns as you get behind the wheel of all-new police cars for the ultimate game of high-speed cat-and-mouse. Finally a Championship Mode will be included and includes an all-new progression system offers frequent rewards, keeping gamers coming back for quick bursts of on-the-go action.

The sense of speed is awesome.
Wi-Fi is one area where Electronic Arts and Burnout Legends developers Criterion are going all-out to make this a major componenet. Not only does it include 4-player action but in order to get gamers using this mode each copy of Burnout Legends will ship randomly with 5 of 25 unlockable cars. The additional 20 can only be collected by playing friends in WiFi challenges. The Burnout Legends wireless mode also lets gamers create multiplayer race series that cycle through multiple events. This keeps players behind the wheel, not searching for matches in the lobby. What really puts the icing on the cake in our opinion is the ability to upload a level from Burnout Legends to a friends PSP so they can compete against each other - but you only need one copy of the game between you. Awesome stuff.

At this stage Electronic Arts look set to release this game in late September in Australia for $79.95. Start saving this looks like an essential purchase and every bit as exciting as other titles in the series.
