OK, not the most exciting background.
Yu Suzuki. The guy is a genius. In fact he is probably one of the most influential game developers of all time with titles such as Virtua Fighter, Shenmue, Outrun, and Ferrari F355 Challenge credited to his name. Another title is the very arcade based After Burner which was released in Japanese arcades, and on the Sega Master System in 1987. Not twelve months later a sequel was released in the arcades before a string of consoles and PC's over the subsequent three years. The series soon fell into history - until 2006. This year has seen the release of After Burner Complex in the arcades, and After Burner: Black Falcon has been announced for the PSP.

Explosions are spectacular.
Unfortunately though series creator Yu Suzuki won't have much input into this game (as far as we know anyway) as development has moved from Sega's internal studios to Planet Moon Studios. The game is basically a fast paced third person arcade styled flight sim. Did you get all that? No? Essentially you'll be screaming at low altitude over a variety of terrain blowing up everything in your path - which means dozens of enemy aircraft. The single player game will include over 30 missions, as well as plenty of secrets to discover while a 2-player co-op mode is certain and there's even been a hint of support for up to 8-players.

Planet Moon Studios have confirmed that the Playstation Portable version will also customisation of the 19 officially licensed planes. We're not sure what customisations will be there exactly but we'd put some money on different weapons, more speed, and better armour.

With a release now targeting Q'2 2007 After Burner: Black Falcon is a game which we're very keen to have a look at. Planet Moon Studios have turned in some impressive titles over the years, and it will be nice to see how they perform with a non character driven title.
