Colourful and gorgeous, that's LittleBigPlanet.
Of all the games shown at the 2014 E3 Show the appearance of Sackboy was probably the most surprising. Only days before the event Media Molecule let it be known they were not attending or showing any games at the event. How is it then that LittleBigPlanet 3 was on Sony's stage? Well this third outing is being handled by a different studio, Sumo Digital. Ahhh... that explains it. Don't be put off however as they are a great development studio and this third game, shown off on PS4, looks every bit as impressive as the previous Media Molecule titles, and adds in quite a bit of new functionality to keep the series fresh.

It's hard to believe, but it will have been six years since the first LittleBigPlanet hit the PS3. It was an amazingly fresh title which brought the idea of user-generated content to the masses years before Minecraft boomed. A sequel followed three years later but now we are about to see the third main game, LittleBigPlanet 3 which looks like taking the franchise to a whole new level.

Sackboy will encounter enemies in the campaign.
Sony have confirmed that the game will indeed include a campaign to work through with an all-new storyline which sees Sackboy travel to a planet called Bunkum. Players there uncover unexplored corners of the Imagisphere and explore the mysterious world as you work together with new friends to rescue Bunkum from the clutches of the evil Newton!

This time Sackboy isn't alone as he has some new friends including OddSock who looks and acts like a 4-legged dog (not that dogs typically have more or less legs really) but who can run fast and jump up walls, Toggle who can switch between large and small versions in order to, in his small form, run on water or fit through tight spaces while in his larger form can weigh down platforms or pressure switches. Finally we have Swoop, a bird who can fly around the levels and pick up objects and other characters and take them to previously unreachable areas.

LittleBigPlanet 3 is coming to PS4 in November.
Of course this franchise has always been about three things - Play, Create and Share. For newcomers though what this means is that the game comes with a complete level editor so you can create your own levels for the game and then, through the internet can share them with the world so anyone can play, and rate, your creations.

Fans of previous LittleBigPlanet titles will be very pleased to hear that this third game, even on PS4, will allow you to import any of the 8.5 million previously created levels and play them in this title - and with improved visuals thanks to the power of the PS4. That gives gamers a virtually unlimited number of levels to play with more sure to be added with the creation tools within the game.

Customising the characters is possible in LBP3.
As you can see from the surrounding screenshots this is a remarkably gorgeous game which not only has wonderful looking levels, but a wide variety of gameplay from side-scrolling platform action, to car racing, to a shooter and much more. Yet again the game allows you to customise the look of the characters - and indeed it will be possible to import texture packs from the previous PS3 games. It will also be possible to fully customise the look of the four main characters. In terms of audio it has been confirmed that Stephen Fry is returning to the series and will narrate the game.

Christmas 2014 for the Playstation 4 just got a whole lot more exciting with LittleBigPlanet 3. If the game retains the charm of the original title then this is a sure-fire winner and the ability to import any of the previously user-generated content is a major plus for this new title. If you don't have a PS4 however, don't dispair as Community Co-ordinator Steven Isbell has confirmed the game is also coming to PS3. Having said that, at this stage, officially, the game is only coming to PS4 in November, with no date for the PS3 version.
