Those looking for a decent RPG on PS4 should keep an eye on this game.
Yet another gorgeous cut-scenes.
Despite a few questionable outings in recent years Square-Enix's Final Fantasy franchise remains a mega RPG franchise in the gaming world and while PS4 owners wait for Final Fantasy XV they can rest well in the knowledge that come March they will be able to play a HD port of Final Fantasy Type-0, one of the best PSP titles ever released. So what's it about...
The year 842 is the beginning of the end. In an act of unprovoked aggression, the Militesi Empire invaded the Dominion of Rubrum. Imperial dreadnoughts swarmed the skies, assailing the unsuspecting countryside under the banner of the White Tiger. From amidst the flames of the besieged dominion, the Vermilion Bird rose in defiance, her crystal granting magic and mighty eidolons that her disciples might cast out the technologically advanced aggressors.
Now that's one massive enemy.
Thrust into the tumult of war, the fate of the world and its four crystals now rests on the shoulders of fourteen brave, young warriors.
Those concerned that this PSP title will be a short experience need not worry. As with most Square-Enix titles this is a massive RPG which will take around 30-40 hours to complete, and much more for those that like to complete every task. In the game you have a choice of 14 playable members of Class Zero from an elite military academy, each of which has different weapons, abilities and combat styles.
Don't worry out release will be in English!.
There have been some tweaks and changes to the HD port of this game. First of all, while the PSP original had three difficulty levels, the PS4 version will include a fourth - Super Hard. Sadly the multiplayer option from the PSP game has been dropped - as has the ability for the game to continue while the console is in standby mode. Finally the PS4 game will include costumes release post-launch on PSP, as well as a few new exclusives.
Fans of the Final Fantasy franchise will also be pleased to hear that those that pre-order Final Fantasy Type-0 will get a demo of Final Fantasy XV dubbed "Episode Duscae" via digital downlaod as well. We're not sure how much content will be included although we do know it's from the opening sections of the full game albeit with a slightly altered story to suit a first playthroguh experience. This will be the first big look at Square-Enix's upcoming RPG.
Final Fantasy Type-0 looks decent on PS4.
Naturally the biggest change to this game will be the visuals and as you can see from the surrounding screenshots, and the video below, this is a very nice looking game with plenty of enhancements to the world of Orience. While it's certainly not up there with the best the PS4 has to offer this certainly looks like a polished port to the realm of HD visuals. In terms of audio the game will include both Japanese and English voiceovers with subtitles in a range of languages as well.
Final Fantasy Type-0 was one of the best games on the Playstation Portable and will be a nice stop-gap on the Playstation 4 until a fully-fledged game comes along in the form of Final Fantasy XV somewhere down the line. As it stands, with a release set for late March, this is a pretty exciting looking game.
Below is the rather stunning "Enter The Fray" trailer released late last year.
