Ubisoft's Far Cry franchise is one that has grown from strenth to strength to the point where it is now a key in Ubisoft's release schedule. Every game in the series has had entirely new characters and locations, and this latest game is going to continue that trend with an entirely new adventure set in the Himalayas.
The story of Far Cry 4 is still fairly well under wraps however what we do know is that you play Ajay Ghale who has returned to Kyrat to scatter his late mothers ashes. While there he gets caught up in a civil war with self-appointed King Pagan Min.

As with other games in the series Far Cry 4 is an open-world action game, with a primary focus on FPS action. Missions are scattered all over the map, as well as side-tasks such as clearing out outposts, or hunting animals.
Wildlife has always featured in this franchise and Far Cry 4 introduces leopards, rhinos, black eagles and honey badgers (who are surprisingly visious) but its the elephants which look set to provide plenty of fun. These giant animals can be used to attack enemy outposts - shoot one and he will go rampaging causing massive damage while it's also possible to hop on top of an elephant and use your own weapons to take out enemies while the elephant takes out everything in his path.
Set in the Himalayas, Far Cry 4 looks chilly!
Vehicles will also play a large part in Far Cry 4 with the usual suspects on offer, but it's the inclusion of a gyrocopter that should provide plenty of thrills in the mountains as you attack enemies from above or move to higher ground. The game also provides the player with a wingsuit for some high speed thrills.
If you own a Playstation 4 then there is one massive bonus - the ability to get your friends playing the game with you, even if they don't own it. Those that purchase the game will receive 10 keys which allows your PSN friends to join the co-op game for up to two hours. Players should note however that while the person receiving the invite doesn't need to own the game, they will have a pretty hefty download of all the game files before they get started.

Ubisoft have also confirmed details about the Season Pass, and there is plenty of content. That content includes a Day 1 single player and Co-Op mission called "The Syringe" and anotehr called "Escape from Durgesh Prison" post launch, a campaign called "Valley of the Yetis", a PvP mode called "Overrun" and a pack called "Hurk" which includes 5 additional missions including Yak Farm, Blood Ruby, and Hurk’s Redemption, plus 5 more weapons. Admittedly it's a pretty comprehensive list of additional content (and reportedly priced at, or around, $AU29.95) but we hope it's not a case of content being excised from the main game to milk some more money from gamers. Time will tell...
Visuals in Far Cry 4 are stunning.
Far Cry 4 uses a heavily modified Dunia Engine 2 which powered Far Cry 3 on the PS3 a couple of years ago but which is also optimised to make use of the much more powerful PS4 console (it also features DirectX 11 support on PC). As you can see from the surrounding screenshots this is a visually stunning game with wonderfully detailed environments, and superb motion capturing on the main characters - both in cut-scenes and within the game.
With only weeks until release of Far Cry 4 our excitement levels for this game are probably higher then any other release on PS4 this Christmas. A large open-world action adventure with plenty of FPS action makes this a very exciting prospect. Roll on late November...
Below is a trailer called "Pagin Min: King of Kyrat" which shows off some of the world of Far Cry 4 and the primary villain.
