Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes - PS4 Preview
Disney Infinity is back with a second version.
Original characters can be used in DI2.
Iron Man features in Disney Infinity 2.
There's no hiding the fact that Disney Infinity is a pretty blatant copy of Activision's very popular Skylanders title, but that's no bad thing for gamers. Activision's Skylanders game sells in great numbers, but it's not just the game that has consumers spending money as gamers also need to purchase the figurines to play as those characters in the game. Where Disney Infinity becomes exciting is the properties being covered. The first game primarily focused on Pixar characters with a few others thrown in from properties such as Pirates of the Caribbean, Frozen, Phineas and Ferb and of course Mickey Mouse from Fantasia.
In case you have been living under a rock, Walt Disney Studios now owns Marvel Comics as well as LucasFilm which brings with it Star Wars and Indiana Jones, however for the release of Disney Infinity 2 it's Marvel Comics which is getting all the love (there are rumours that Star Wars will be a focus for next year’s release!).
Venom is one of the Spider-Man characters.
As with the first game Disney Infinity combines both a traditional video game with physical figurines of various characters which, when placed on a game pad are activated within the virtual world. The developers hired comic writer Brian Michael Bendis to pen the story which sees Loki planning to freeze New York City and the entire globe and your cast of characters battling through a series of levels and puzzles to stop him.
Speaking of characters, Disney Infinity 2: Marvel Super Heroes allows you to use characters from several Marvel properties including Guardians of the Galaxy with characters from that film including StarLord, Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, Groot and Rocket Raccoon, as well as characters from the Avengers universe such as Iron Man, Thor, Black Widow, Captain America, Hawkeye and Hulk in the first wave of releases, with Loki due at a later date. Spider-Man is represented with characters including Spider-Man, Nova, Venom, Iron Fist, and Nick Fury in the first wave and Green Goblin at a later date, while Disney Characters will also be available and include Maleficent, Stitch, Tinker Bell, Aladdin, Merida, and Donald Duck. A third wave of figures will appear much later and possibly include Jasmine from Aladdin, Baymax and Hiro Himada from Disney's upcoming Big Hero 6 film.
Battle on the city streets.
Not only are the developers set to release a whole new swag of characters for Disney Infinity 2, but those who own the original game can use those figurines in this game. Disney Infinity characters can increase their level cap from level 15 to 20 and skills can be allocated across a variety of attributes using the new skill tree.
One of the biggest differences from the last-gen versions to the next-gen versions (besides the obvious graphical advantages), is that the larger amount of RAM and processing power allows people to create larger levels in the Toy Box mode. Of course once you create the levels within the game you can then upload it and share it with other gamers around the globe.
Spider-man could be great fun.
Some of you may be looking at the surrounding screenshots and wondering if this is a Playstation 4 title. While it may not have the detailed texturing or realistic visuals of many titles this shouldn't be seen as disappointing. The large sandbox styled nature of the game (including user created levels) does see some restrictions, but the visuals are clean, clear and fun which is exactly what you expect from such a title.
We're pretty keen to check out Disney Infinity 2 - it looks like a tonne of fun and while there is potential for a very costly experience if you collect all the characters (much like Skylanders), this also gives you the freedom to play with only your favourites too.
The Marvel Universe is one most loved at the moment with every cinematic release doing phenomenal business and even more obscure properties like Guardians of the Galaxy have brought in almost $US600 million worldwide, with the film still top of the US Box Office after six weeks. With a release only a couple of weeks away it won't be too long until we get our hands on this fun looking game.
Below is the Toy Box Features Walkthrough for the game which gives a great overview of what to expect.
