That's one pretty big Terminator.
2009 is going to be an awesome year for movies - Fast and Furious, Up, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Wolverine, Ice Age 3 and Star Trek to name a few. By far my most anticipated movie though is Terminator 4. As a massive Arnie fan I love the original three movies and while he won't appear in this movie (besides a still only rumoured very small cameo) this fourth movie still looks sensational from the trailers released so far. Finally we will see the "future" war between humans and machines.
Of all the movies being released this year none seems more suited to a video game adaptation then Terminator 4 and this Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment will be distributing a game based on this movie this June. So let's have a look...

Graphically Terminator Salvation looks solid.
This isn't a straight port of the story from the movie though, but actually takes place between the events of Terminator 3 and the fourth movie. Set in 2016 in Los Angeles, which is two years before the movie, the game sees you controlling John Connor as well as following the events of Barnes who is played by Common in the movie.
Terminator Salvation is a third person action game which sees the player taking on the Skynet enemies which includes all manner of Terminators including the T-600, Hunter Killers and some machines which haven't appeared in the movies - and won't be in the upcoming one either. The game includes a complete cover system as well as destructible environments. The weapons will include shotguns, fully automatic machine guns, huge mounted weaponry, grenades, rocket-launchers and even a plasma firing Skynet tank. It will also be possible to man mounted guns either on vehicles or around the destroyed landscapes of Los Angeles.

Incoming Hunter Killer...
What we have learnt in recent times is that the developers have included a 2-player split screen co-op mode and it certainly looks like a slick option. One of the biggest disappointments with this game is the lack of online multi-player with the developers preferring to focus on the single player game and storyline. Given the tight timelines that the game is under that is probably understandable.
Sadly Christian Bale, still coming down from his on-set rant most likely, has not allowed his likeness or voice to be used in this game. That's a real shame, but seeing as John Connor has been played by four different actors now we can probably live with another likeness! On a more positive note Moon Bloodgood is reprising her role as Blair Williams, Common is in the game as Barnes and Rose McGowan has joined the videogame to play Angie Salter.

Using one of the games vehicles.
Perhaps the most interesting aspect of this game is the developer - GRIN. This company isn't a household name but their games are as they have worked on titles including Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 for Ubisoft. That was a great title so if that quality can be transferred into this game then we should be on a winner.
Visually Terminator Salvation looks pretty impressive. There will be a wide range of Terminators, some of which won't be seen in the movie, and there are some great locations on offer.
With a release date only a couple of months away the game certainly looks impressive visually. Hopefully with a solid frame rate, and a decent game length (especially given the lack of multi-player) this could be a wonderful videogame tie-in.
