Yep, this is definately a Star Wars Game.
With no more Star Wars movies on the horizon fans of one of the most loved franchises of all time need to look for other outlets for inspiration. There are, of course, books available, and George Lucas & Co are working on a live action TV series to start filming (hopefully) from 2010. At the moment though we have the TV series Star Wars: The Clone Wars - an animated series which, while not rating too well in Australia on Free To Air (but one of the highest rated shows on Cartoon Network), is actually a fairly impressive series well worth checking out. Star Wars The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes is based on that series, but any fans of the Star Wars franchise will likely enjoy this title.

This game acts as a bridge between the first and second seasons of the TV show and allows you to learn more about the mysterious bounty hunter Cad Bane and hunt down the all-new Skakoan super villain Kul Teska. Developed by Krome Studios here in Australia, with the assistance of Lucasfilm Animation, Star Wars The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes actually lets you select from two different sides to work through the 30+ missions which appear in the game.

Expect plenty of laser fire in Republic Heroes.
The first faction is the Jedi who, somewhat expectedly, use light sabers as their weapon of choice but also have the ability to use Force powers and use a variety of vehicles. The Jedi can also "droidjack" which allows them to take control of any of the droids in the game and use them against your enemies.

The second class of character to control is the Clone Troopers. These guys are packed with additional firepower such as pistols, rockets, grenades and chain guns, can use melee attacks and also have more tech abilities then the Jedi. The Clone Troopers even have the ability to use Jet Packs for an advantage on the battlefield.

Republic Heroes looks like the TV series.
In terms of actual characters which appear in the game Jedi characters include Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ahsoka Tano, Mace Windu, Kit Fisto, Aayla Secura, Luminara Unduli and Plo Koon whilst some of the clone trooper characters such as Rex, Cody, Gree, Ponds and Bly are also playable, in addition to new characters such as Private Switch, Sergeant Boomer and Sergeant Kano. Republic Heroes includes droids as seen in the movies and TV shows such as super battle droids and droideka while some new droids have been created for the game including sabotage and chameleon droids.

The great news for gamers is that this game has been developed with co-op gameplay in mind. It will be possible to compete against a friend with in-level challenges for rewards and points to be spent to upgrade your character and unlock bonus items. Unfortunately we are unsure if this will be only offline or online gameplay.

Not all combat is on the ground!
Visuals in this game are quite impressive. The development team has had full access to the assets used by the makers of the TV show with character models and artwork all taken straight from the TV show. Cut-scenes have also been developed with the assistance of the makers of the TV series.

Audio is also set to impress with the developers having full access to the music, effects, and actors used in the animated TV series. We can also expect some pretty impressive scriptwriting with the writers from the TV series being used to ensure this game remains authentic, and accurate to the TV series.

With a release only a couple of weeks away things are shaping up quite nicely for Star Wars The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes. Not having many of the characters we've come to love in the original movies could be a bit disappointing, but fans of the animated series will love this, and even general fans of the franchise. Expect a release in Australia on October 7th.
