The Playstation 3 has seen quite a few solid releases to date, but when it comes to online interactivity few have succeeded in building this into the actual game as SingStar did when it hit the shelves in December last year. Despite the lack of Wireless microphones (what's happening there Sony!?) it remained a fantastic game and - somewhat unexpectedly - the series is seeing a sequel released to retail for the PS3 this June. Actually it probably isn't such a big surprise as, despite millions of downloads, not everyone has their PS3 connected online or are able to download from the hundreds of available songs even if they are online. For those gamers this release is crucial to keep their SingStar library of songs fresh.

Can you believe it? Eminem in SingStar!
In the slim chance that you are unaware what SingStar is, the game is essentially Sony Europe's karaoke game. Using original songs (not dodgy remakes), and original video clips, the game scores you according to the pitch of your voice. Each disc comes with 30 songs to test your vocal chords, but given the advent of online connectivity the Playstation 3 version allows you to download hundreds of other songs for a measly $2.45 each! While great as a single-player experience it's when you get a second person that the game comes alive with various duets and battles available.

Visually the game matches the original PS3 title.
The track list is always important on any release (especially if you don't have an option to download songs from the SingStore) and we're happy to report that SingStar Vol. 2 looks like one of the best yet - including the numerous PS2 releases. Who ever would have thought we would have seen Paul McCartney, Eminem, Tom Jones and Aerosmith all in the one compilation? It certainly looks like an impressive list that's for sure and while we're sure that the wide range of music will ensure there are a couple of songs you won't like, but we can pretty much guarantee there will be just as many, if not more that you will love. Anyway here's a look at the full track listing...

Aerosmith - Dude Looks Like a Lady
Blur - Country House
Bobby Brown - My Perogative
Eminem - Without Me
George Michael - Freedom '90
Gorillaz - Dare
Gossip - Standing in the Way of Control
Hot Chocolate - You Sexy Thing
Kaiser Chiefs - Ruby
Kool and the Gang - Celebration
The Lovin' Spoonful - Summer in the City
Maximo Park - Our Velocity
Morrisey - Suedehead
Nirvanna - Lithium
Panic! At The Disco - But It's Better If You Do
Pulp - Common People
Paul McCartney & the Frog Chorus - We All Stand Together
Radiohead - Street Spirit (Fade Out)
Shakespears Sister - Stay
Spandau Ballet - TRUE
The Cure - Pictures of You
The Killers - When You Were Young
The Libertines - Can't Stand Me Now
The Mamas and The Papas - California Dreamin'
The Offspring - Pretty Fly (For A White Guy)
The Police - Don't Stand So Close To Me
The Proclaimers - I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)
Tom Jones with Mousse T - Sexbomb
Tone Loc - Funky Cold Medina
Young MC - Bust A Move

The big addition to this game (and we believe there will be a patch for the first SingStar as well) is the addition of a harmony duet mode. This allows players to sing different lines to a song at the same time. In order to get the best out of this mode the game has several tracks which perfect represent this including Kool and the Gang: Celebration, Paul McCartney & the Frog Chorus: We all Stand Together and The Mamas & The Papas: California Dreamin'.

The Gorillaz clip is pretty cool.
That's not all though as SingStar Vol. 2 also includes Remote Play functionalities with PSP. Using a PSP and wireless Internet connection, players will be able to access various areas of the game such as the SingStore and My SingStar Online. The good news is that any songs you have purchased for use with the first release, will seamlessly be integrated into this discs playlists. Sadly, or should that be disappointingly, you won't be able to move the songs from the first release onto your hard drive to use here, but like the PS2 games, you will need to swap discs over.

Of course Volume 2 will retain the features and functionality of My SingStar Online - the online community where you can record yourself, either via video or audio, then have segments of those performances uploaded to be rated by other SingStar gamers. Sadly we don't believe that you will be able to select the segment of your performance to be uploaded, but rather the PS3 will select the segment.

Kool and the Gang with their hit Celebration.
SingStar Vol. 2 includes 30 great new tracks, a new game mode, added PSP functionality for the low price of $59.95 (game only). But wait a minute... The previous game was $10 cheaper? Thanks Sony for the increased price at a time when the Australian Dollar is so strong. Why is is (and this is talking generally now) that games that cost $US60 (or around $AU65) are being sold here for $110? A blatant rip off that must be addressed, and Sony should be leading the way, not screwing us over!

No matter the price SingStar Vol. 2 looks like a must have when it hits the shelves on June 19th here in Australia. Make sure you pre-order it now (preferably from the link at the top of this page!)...
