Level detail in RE:ORC is solid.
While some people are upset that Capcom are seemingly moving away from the core of the franchise (and indeed the same could be leveled at the upcoming Resident Evil 6 as well) we're quite happy to see the company taking some risks to bring in a new audience. Fortunately, by having Slant Six Games assist with development, they have turned to a company with a track record for the action genre due to their work on three of Sony's SOCOM titles. Hopefully though, Capcom's assistance with development will help bring a level of polish and technical proficiency the developer has failed to demonstrate to date.

Set around the same time period of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis the storyline offers a unique perspective of the Resident Evil universe. It is September 1998 and the action centers on the ill-fated Raccoon City and the horrific consequences of the deadly T-virus outbreak, developed at the Umbrella facility. With a cover up required when one of its top scientists Dr. William Birkin plans to sell the experimental G-Virus to the U.S. Government. Things go wrong however and the T-virus is released into the sewers and spread throughout Raccoon City. Umbrella orders an elite team into Raccoon City to destroy all evidence of the outbreak and eliminate any survivors. Meanwhile, the US Government has quarantined the city and dispatched its own team of elite soldiers to determine the source of the mysterious outbreak. Caught up in the crossfire are rookie police office Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield.

Jill looks impressive in the Heroes mode.
During the game player take on the role of one of six characters, each with their own abilities and skillsets. The campaign mode can be played with three friends for 4-player co-op action as you attempt to rewrite the history of the Raccoon City outbreak and also discover the UBCS operative Nicholai Ginovaef's motives. Should you be playing on your own then the other three characters in your squad will be AI controlled - and we can only hope that the developers make them pretty smart as a squad- based shooter relies on the teams performance, not just your own. Gamers can also expect the game to be filled with "favourite" enemies including Zombies, Zombie Dogs, Lickers, Hunters, Tyrants and the Nemesis.

Besides the 4-player campaign mode Operation Raccoon City includes competitive online multiplayer modes for up to 8-player (yes, only 8-players) which will offer unique gameplay due to the three competitive factions detailed above - the Umbrella Security Service, US Special Ops and Bio-Organic Weapons (B.O.W) and Zombies. The game contains four multiplayer game modes... Heroes allows you to play as familiar Resident Evil characters including Ada Wong, Leon S. Kennedy, Claire Redfield, Jill Valentine, and Nicholai Ginovaef. Biohazard mode is similar to Capture the Flag with vials of G-Virus. Survivors is essentially a survival mode while Team Attach is a Team Deathmatch styled mode. Unfortunately for a game with such a multiplayer focus the lack of modes is a disappointment.

Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City is out soon.
From an audio visual standpoint Operation Raccoon City is looks pretty solid with nice characters, level design and enemies (from what we've seen). The game will feature iconic locations from previous Resident Evil titles including the Police Station. More important than the pretty visuals though will be a rock solid frame rate.

With a release set for late March we don't have too long to see how this online action-oriented shooter turns out. 2012 should be a massive year for the Resident Evil franchise with this game, the new feature film, Resident Evil: Retribution due in September, and then Resident Evil 6 due in November.
