City detail is impressive.
The Need for Speed franchise has had a bit of a rocky life. After initial praise in the PSOne days it seemed to lose its way - that was until the Underground titles made their way to the PS2 when the series was catapaulted back to the top of the pile with lightning fast cars and superb gameplay. Now, Electronic Arts are moving the series to the next generation and Need for Speed: Most Wanted is the first game to make the transition (although it will also appear on current generation systems - albeit with less impressive graphics then these next generation screens).

To become the most wanted racer, players must build up their street cred and Rap Sheet with gripping, white knuckle, head-to-head races with the top drivers on the streets, as well as pull daring, evasive moves to out-run and out-fox the cops that patrol the open road. Players can manage their heat or utilize a number of strategic tactics to keep the cops off their tails as they leave their rivals behind to suck their exhaust fumes.

Expect graphics like this in-game.
Need for Speed Most Wanted also features a variety of the hottest cars that range from tuners to super cars. You can customize your ride to race against any class of vehicles. Need for Speed Most Wanted features new and exciting gameplay that incorporates strategic cop pursuit and skill-based evasion techniques with illicit street racing. Players will build up their Rap Sheet with record breaking times, street challenges and out-foxing an escalation of police vehicles, tactics and technology. Still not enough - well expect online gameplay too...

Nice car...
Looking at these graphics you may think they are mock-ups, well they may be, but we've seen the game in action and there is virtually no difference to these screens - its that impressive. The game utilizes graphical techniques including normal mapping and real-time lighting, the graphical experience is incomparable to any racing game on the market. Naturally the game will also allow you to pimp your ride to make it the hottest machine on the streets.

While Electronic Arts haven't specifically confirmed Need for Speed: Most Wanted as a Playstation 3 release it's almost a no-brainer. The game should be a launch title for the XBox 360 and we wouldn't be surprised if it's a launch title for PS3 in 2006.
