Announced in April 2010 at Capcom's Captivate event Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds brings together two stables of characters, those from Capcom's long list of video games and those from Marvel's extensive comic book catalogue, into an all-new 2D brawler being developed by Capcom. Having been in development since mid-2008 after Capcom and Marvel sorted out the legal issues to work together, the game is now nearing completion and it looks quite stunning indeed.

Marvel Vs Capcom: Fate of Two Worlds looks superb on PS3 and Xbox 360.
Despite the 3D characters this is very much a 2D brawler with no ability to move in or out of the screen. The controls too are different from Marvel vs. Capcom 2. In that game four attack buttons were used for low and high powered punches, and low and high powered kicks. In Marvel Vs Capcom 3 only three buttons are used for light, medium and heavy attacks with the game, or the user inputs determining the body part (arm or leg) attacking. This new game also introduces an Exchange button which is used to launch fighters into the air, switch characters during matches which includes 3-on-3 tag team fighting, or smash opponents into the ground.

It's Wolverine in his comic book form.
Marvel Characters in the game include Captain America, Deadpool, Doctor Doom, Dormammu, Hulk, Iron Man, Magneto, M.O.D.O.K., Phoenix, She-Hulk, Spider-man, Storm, Super-Skrull, Thor, Wolverine, and X-23.

From the Capcom side we can expect characters including Albert Wesker, Amaterasu, Arthur, Chris Redfield, Chun-Li, Crimson Viper, Dante, Felicia, Mike Haggar, Morrigan Aensland, Nathan Spencer, Ryu, Trish, Tron Bonne, Viewtiful Joe and Zero

Downloadble characters will also be available, and we suspect for a small fee, and will include Marvel's Shuma-Gorath and from Capcom, Jill Valentine. It has been mentioned that a Collector's Edition of the game will allow you to access these characters free - although we are unsure if this edition will come to Australia as yet.

Visually the game is quite the stunner with 3D characters battling on gorgeous backgrounds. In fact the game is being powered by version 2.1 of Capcom's MT Framework game engine which was used in Resident Evil 5 (ver 1.4) and Lost Planet 2 (ver 2.0). This will be a departure from Street Fighter IV which was developed by Dimps and didn't use Capcom's engine. As you can see from the surrounding screenshots though Marvel Vs Capcom 3 is a stunning looking title.

Sadly, Capcom have confirmed there won't be a demo available for this game, but needless to say it's a title that should sell itself to fighting fans and at this stage looks like being the biggest and best brawler to be released in 2011. Expect to be playing this in late February 2011.
