Graphics have certainly improved.
When gamers talk about Rockstar most will immediately think of their hit series Grand Theft Auto. It is, after all, one of the biggest critical and commercial successes in the videogame industry for some time. The company has several other franchises in their library and one of the biggest is their racing series Midnight Club. Fortunately for fans of the series Rockstar have confirmed that the series is heading to the Playstation 3 as Midnight Club: Los Angeles and it looks like another fantastic title. A year after announcement details are still a little scarce, but let's see what we have...

That's a nice reflection there.
Midnight Club: Los Angeles is, as you can probably tell from the name, set in Los Angeles. As Rockstar are keeping a majority of the game under wraps we're not sure what areas will be included, but apparently the game will be pretty faithful to the real locations albeit with some changes to ensure the game keeps a 'racing' feel. The game is open in that you can drive to any part of the city to join races or just cruise around. Apparently the city in this game will be larger then the three cities combined in Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition. In terms of vehicles the game will include a wide variety of cars and motorbikes, so fans of either will be pretty happy.

Looks like motorbikes will be included.
Another great feature that has made it into the game is the car damage. Fortunately there will be a 'quick fix' option to save you having to travel to and using garages for repairs however this option will only fix the damage affecting the cars performance, and won't include a re-spray of repaired panels. Other features which we can expect from this game include online gameplay for an unspecified number of players, real-time weather which will alter the physics of the cars on wet or dry roads, and day to night effects. In fact the time of the day will determine how much other traffic is on the roads. Late night will be quiet while rush hour will be pretty busy. We also expect, as was the case with previous games, minimal load times between races.

As you would have seen from the surrounding screenshots this is a very impressive looking game thanks to Rockstar's RAGE engine (which is also going to power a certain game called GTAIV). Car models are superb and each is made up of approximately 100,000 polygons while drivers in the cars are now also visible! Trackside detail is also impressive. If the developers manage to run this at a constant frame rate then we could be looking at one of the most impressive games on the Playstation 3 in terms of visuals.

Previous games in the Midnight Club series were very enjoyable titles and we have high hopes for Rockstar San Diego to deliver the goods this time around as well. Expect Midnight Club: Los Angeles to be released on October 23, 2008.
