Max Payne 3 will include slow-mo action.
It has been quite a while since we've seen a Max Payne title released - indeed the first two games were released in 2001 and 2003 respectively. So a decade on we are now getting a third title, and a new developer with the games development handed over from Rememdy Entertainment to Rockstar (Take Two paid $US10 million and almost a million shares for the rights to the franchise in 2001). So here we are with Max Payne 3 almost set for launch after a rather lengthy development period. Originally announced for release in 2010, the game has been pushed back several times to the now final May 18, 2012 - but being a Rockstar title, and their superb track record we'd give them all the time they need.

Max Payne 3 continues the tale of former New York City detective, Max Payne. Still haunted by the memories of his traumatic past, Max begins a new life working private security protecting a wealthy industrialist and his family in Sao Paulo, Brazil. When gangs target the family under his protection, Max is forced to fight to save his clients and clear his name, in a bid to, once and for all, rid himself of the demons that have tortured him for far too long.

I don't think that guy will be in Max Payne 4.
Max Payne 3 is a third person action game through and through. The original game was noted for it's use of "Bullet Time" to slow down the action and that returns in this latest title while Max can also take cover behind objects during gun battles. When Max is heavily injured he enters a "Last Man Standing" mode where, after taking a painkiller, is able to take out one more enemy - if successful he recovers to continue fighting. During the campaign the game will seamlessly (yes, without loads) switch between gameplay and cut-scenes.

For the first time in the franchise the game will include multiplayer modes which features a full reward and leveling system, clans and support for multiple loadouts for up to 10-players per match. One really cool aspect is that the Social Clubs will cross over from this game to Rockstar's other titles including Grand Theft Auto V.

Visually Max Payne 3 - like all Rockstar titles - should be an impressive title. Indeed we have already seen from the released screenshots and video that the developers have put Rockstar's own RAGE engine (albeit updated for this game) to good use (this has been used in the companies other PS3 titles including GTA and Red Dead Redemption) with the character animations being handled by the Euphoria Engine.

Anything that Rockstar touches demands immediate attention and from what we've seen Max Payne 3 doesn't look like a title to break their winning streak. We would recommend that Australian gamers check out the bonuses being given at EB Games - the first DLC will be free for gamers that purchase from that store as well as an exclusive cemetary multiplayer map.
