Visuals in Fangorn Forest look impressive.
Announced in May 2009 The Lord of the Rings: Aragorn's Quest is a game we have been quite looking forward to for some time now. This is the first game in J.R.R. Tolkien's franchise to be released through Warner Brothers Games since they took over the license from Electronic Arts a couple of years ago, it appears to offer a bit more of an RPG style then EA's very action oriented-titles, and it promise

In The Lord of the Rings: Aragorn's Quest, preparations are underway in Hobbiton for a great party to welcome Aragorn, King of Gondor, and honor Samwise Gamgee for his service during the War of the Ring. Samwise’s children are eager to learn more of this great man and Samwise, now Mayor, embarks on a tale of the revered warrior, Strider — as Aragorn is known in his Ranger days — and his most valiant battles.

LOTR: Aragorn's Quest should hit PS3 in October.
The Lord of the Rings: Aragorn's Quest is a third person action/adventure game which allows you to follow the complete story of Aragorn through the adventures detailed in The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. The game is obviously aimed at a slight more casual then hardcore market, but the game will allow customsisable upgrades and abilities. Not only will you hack and slash your way through levels with a sword, shield, bow and spear, but will also be able to engage in combat from horseback.

The biggest announcement relating to this game in recent weeks, and almost certainly the reason for its delay earlier this year, is that it will now support the Playstation Move controller so you can hack and slash your way through the levels. We haven't been hands-on with the Move controller ourselves yet (with this game or any others), but can't really think of a game more suited to motion controls.

Wasn't there hundreds of Orcs in the movies and books? Apparently not in this game (or at least screen) though!
Visually Aragorn's Quest isn't the most detailed of titles on the PS3, but the visuals are certainly a step up from the Nintendo Wii version, and are clear enough to make use of the Playstation Move controller easy. With such visuals we certainly expect the developers to lock in a solid frame rate, and the game to be screen-tear free. In terms of audio perhaps the most exciting news is that Sean Astin and John Rhys-Davis have provided voiceovers for the game.

There's no doubt that this is a big game for Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment. They acquired the rights to the franchise from Electronic Arts a couple of years ago and have a lot to live up to given EA's successes with the franchise. Perhaps the biggest disappointment for Warner Brothers is that with MGM's financial crisis (they're apparently $US6 billion in debt!) this game won't be released as hype for the (now delayed) Hobbit movies starts to grow.

Still with Playstation Move support this could be one of the meatiest games for Sony's new controller this year. Expect a release in Australia on October 27, 2010.
