Graphics can be pretty intense.
We have to admit that while we had heard of Clive Barker, we couldn't honestly say that we were familiar with his works. A bit of research though dug up information that Clive has been one of the most popular horror based authors and movie makers in recent years with 1987's Hellraiser being the biggest movie to date. So horror is his style and Clive Barker's Jericho is, somewhat obviously, a horror based videogame for next-generation systems (or should we start calling them current-generation?). Fortunately you won't have to be a fan of Clive's to take a big interest in this game.

An ancient evil has broken through into our world and is threatening to spread its taint across the whole of earth unless it's stopped. At ground zero lies the Middle Eastern city of Al-Khali, a modern city built atop the ancient ruins of a dozen previous conquerors. All attempts with contacting the doomed citizens of the city have failed. With tensions already running high in the region, this is just the sort of thing that could trigger the Apocalypse.

Is that Lara Croft I see? Probably not.
This is an interesting title in that rather then being a straight up FPS it is actually a squad based FPS. The title refers to the Jericho Team, a seven-man strike force that protects government interests from paranormal threats. Trained in both conventional warfare and the arcane arts, each Jericho Team member is an expert in different para-psychological disciplines, including clairvoyance, alchemy, blood magic and exorcism. Players must navigate Al Khali’s labyrinthine of streets, alleys and structures, moving block by block in search of the rift. As the squad approaches the target, the city now crawling with hellish denizens emerging from the source, the team is forced to rely less and less on traditional weapons and instead on harnessing their combined psychic abilities to defeat the supernatural nemesis no matter how horrific their looks or attacks may be.

This game is pretty gory in places.
So about the squad under your command. As previously mentioned your team is made up of seven members, each with their own special abilities. Taking the lead is Capt. Devin Ross, the Jericho Squad captain and team psychic. As well as him the squad comprises of Father Paul Rawlings – the dual-pistol-wielding priest and exorcist, Sgt. Frank Delgado – a fire-demon-wielding alchemist and pyromancer, Lt. Abigail Black – a telekinetic sniper that can control bullets in mid flight, Sgt. Billie Church – a blood mage that uses her own blood to cast spells and wards, Capt. Xavier Jones – a seer that uses astral projection for reconnaissance, and Cpl. Simone Cole – the Jericho Squad's reality hacker that can alter time and teleport supplies and personnel.

Developed using Mercurysteam's proprietary engine the Madrid based studio has done a wonderful job in creating a horrific world filled with monsters and demons. There's not only some great character design, but also plenty of gore for blood fest fans to enjoy.

Certainly one of the most gory titles coming to the PS3 this year Clive Barker's Jericho also looks like a pretty solid shooter. As yet we haven't heard anything about multi-player or online gameplay, so we suspect it may not be included - hopefully we'll be proven wrong. There hasn't been a lot of buzz, but we suspect that this game could make an impression when it hits the shelves in early November.
