You can say it.. "Shit this is hot!"
To say that this game was one keenly anticipated would be a massive understatement. The developers, Free Radical Design, were the company behind one of the best current generation title TimeSplitters. When Ubisoft confirmed they were to publish a next generation title from the legendary developers people sat up and take notice - and for good reason. E3 2006 was the place where the game would be revealed, and Haze is that title. Another stunning looking kick-ass FPS which looks set to set new benchmarks.

Looks like there will be vehicles.
Set in the year 2048 in a world where Governments have outsourced military operations to Private Military Corporations (PMC), you play a newly enlisted soldier seeking fulfillment and thrills by fighting for a good cause.

As the leading PMC, Mantel Global Industries offers a high-tech arsenal of vehicles, deadly weaponry, and on top of that a performance enhancing bio-medical support known as Nectar. As a result, Mantel troopers are the most feared by terrorists, dictators, and the corporation’s political enemies.

Your conflict begins in a war-torn country where you have been sent to fight a vicious rebel faction, the Promise Hand. At first glance, all is well, but things quickly begin to look a little strange...

Administering Nectar...
Quite obviously this game is a First Person Shooter. Since the initial showing the game has undergone some major changes. As a Mantel Trooper and fight the merciless guerrillas of the Promise Hand with the most advanced gear, the fastest vehicles, the deadliest weapons – and Nectar, Mantel’s battlefield optimized performance enhancing medication. This Nectar is a key component of the game and allows you to gain abilities such as Nectar Focus, Nectar Foresight, Nectar Perception and Melee Blast. Using these skills, troopers are able to detect and avoid imminent danger as well as deliver powerful attacks in close quarters.

Free Radical have always been a company that has been at the cutting edge of technology and made the best use of the hardware provided. For this game the company is using cutting edge gaming technology featuring the Disparity Rendering System which shapes the players’ views of the world on and off Nectar. Haze also features an entirely streamed experience with no loading times between levels.

Another damn impressive screenshot.
Online gameplay is also going to be a part of this title. At this stage Ubisoft has confirmed that the game will include a 4-player co-op mode. We would also expect some normal Deathmatch and/or Capture the Flag type modes however these haven't been confirmed as yet. We would expect that if these modes are included they would include considerbly more players then the four confirmed for co-op. Expect to hear more on this closer to release.

Despite earlier claims that this game would be out in 'early 2007' that has clearly not occurred. In our first preview I stated that 'you know what. I don't care when it comes out. Much like Hideo Kojima's Metal Gear Solid titles this really is a case that I can wait until the developers have squeezed every scrap of power from the Playstation 3 to ensure a top-notch game is on offer.' I still stand by that statement, and it looks like Free Radical are doing just that - taking their time to ensure that Haze is one kick-ass game when it hits shelves on May 22nd 2008, after being delayed (yet again) in November 2007 - only days before release.
