With this latest movie only a couple of weeks away we thought we'd knock out a preview so you can get an idea what to expect of the game as well. What we didn't realise until we were 80% complete with this preview was that the game actually hits shelves today - that either makes this a waste of time as you have the game, or fortunate for those still deciding. Anyway, as expected this game will follow the plot of the movie fairly closely, while expanding on areas for the interactive experiences. So in case you haven't read the book here's the overall plot...

In Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince Voldemort is tightening his grip on both the Muggle and wizarding worlds and Hogwarts is no longer the safe have it once was. Harry suspects that dangers may even lie within the castle, but Dumbledore is more intent upon preparing him for the final battle that he knows is fast approaching. Together they work to find the key to unlock Voldemort's defenses and, to this end, Dumbledore recruits his old friend and colleague, the well-connected and unsuspecting bon vivant Professor Horace Slughorn, whom he believes holds crucial information.

Admittedly the visuals could be better.
Meanwhile, the students are under attack from a very different adversary as teenage hormones rage across the ramparts. Harry finds himself more and more drawn to Ginny, but so is Dean Thomas. And Lavender Brown has decided that Ron is the one for her, only she hadn't counted on Romilda Vane's chocolates! And then there's Hermoine, simmering with jealousy but determined not to show her feelings. As romance blossoms, one student remains aloof. He is determined to make his mark, albeit a dark one.

Gamers will have a chance to engage in exciting wizard duels, mix and brew magical ingredients in Potions class and take to the air to lead the Gryffindor Quidditch team to victory.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince game.
Visually the game certainly isn't taxing the PS3, in fact it's probably one of the least accomplished title on the system from what we've seen of the game, but as long as it captures the spirit of the books and movies it should provide plenty of spine-chilling moments for fans.

I'll be brutally honest here and say that I have next to no interest in this game. But I also have next to no interest in the movie, and only extremely limited interest in the books so it's clear I'm not going to be the target demographic for this game. For the millions that do love the books and movies this looks like being the best game in the franchise and one can only hope that the six month delay in the movies release has seen Electronic Arts pump in six more months development time on the game. If that's the case then we could be onto a winner this July (actually, it should hit shelves tomorrow!).
