Walking around bushland.
When it comes to giant robots running around a world blowing not only equally massive sized enemies, but also everything else, there's something which gets millions of people around the world very excited. Indeed titles like the MechWarrior games on PC have sold millions of units. In Japan though one of the biggest franchises to cash in on this fascination is Mobile Suit Gundam - a series which is hitting the Playstation 3 for launch. This series was actually a 43 episode anime which ran in 1979 and 1980 in Japan. So what have Namco Bandi done with this title? Well read on...

Note the damage on the top-left.
Nine months have passed since Zeon forces invaded the Earth. At the brink of annihilation, the Earth Federation Forces are mobilizing to launch a massive counter assault against the occupying forces. Now, it is time to choose your side! Join the Federation Army to repel the invaders from the Earth or pledge your alliance to Zeon and claim the Earth to free humanity from the Earth’s gravity!

With the choice to join either the Federation Army’s experimental Mobile Suit squad or the Zeon mercenary force in Mobile Suit Gundam: Target in Sight gamers will be able to control over 30 different mobile suits. As you would expect each has their positives and negatives. Not only will you control your own Mobile Suit but also become the squadron leader. Strategize your plan of attack prior to the engagement and give orders to your MS squad under rapidly changing battle circumstances. You can order them to attack, halt, gather, scatter, dash to the front, barrage and so on.

The Mobile Suits look pretty good.
Throughout the game you have the option to upgrade and customize your Mobile Suit. As you complete the mission objectives you will claim achievement points which can then be used to reinforce its armor, upgrade its weapon, strengthen its attack power and more.

Sadly, and despite a perfect opportunity there will be no online gameplay in this title. One could only imagine how much more fun it would be to battle several friends online. If there's one consolation it that the game will include a 2-player mode.

More blasting.
It's pretty clear that this game isn't really pushing the PS3 in terms of graphics - at least we certainly hope it isn't as it would mean the system doesn't look much better then the PS2! Having said that each of the body parts of the mobile suits is destructible so you can target a specific area to inflict damage.

Mobile Suit Gundam: Target in Sight doesn't look like being the best game technically on the PS3 - not even close in fact, but there has to be something to it as the game is one of the biggest selling PS3 titles in Japan to date. I guess the most interesting comparison is that Famitsu in Japan gave the game an impressive 80% overall, while IGN gave it 32% in America (where the game was titled Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire). While we don't usually post information from other sites we know the game has received a lot of negative press from America - and we're wondering if it is due to the heavy Japanese influences. As expected we'll be giving the game a full review when it is released a couple of weeks after the system on April 13.
