Jessica Alba won't appear in the game!!
For those of you unaware Fantastic Four is a comic book created by Stan Lee way back in 1961. The premise revolves around for people with powers beyond this earth. The team includes Mr Fantastic (Reed Richards) who can stretch his body to incredible lengths, The Invisible Woman (Susan Richards) who can become invisible and project force fields around her, The Thing (Ben Grimm) who possesses massive amounts of strength thanks to his rock-like skin while The Human Torch (Johnny Storm) can surround himself and fly. In July 2005 Fox released a feature movie, and this year we're about to get the sequel, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

Of course with that movie comes another game based upon it. Previewing movie tie-ins does get somewhat boring if only because a lot of the time the movie plot remains under wraps, and game developers are equally restrained by what they can say, and show, of their games so as to not destroy the movie for the public. This is one such occasion where, besides a general overview which can be gleaned from the superb trailer for the movie, little else is know about the detailed storyline. But that's ok, we can still give you some screenshots and details of the game, so here goes...

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer sees Marvelís first family of Super Heroes face its greatest challenge yet as the enigmatic, intergalactic herald, The Silver Surfer, comes to Earth to prepare it for destruction. As the Silver Surfer races around the globe wreaking havoc, the team must unravel the mystery of the Silver Surfer and confront the surprising return of their mortal enemy, Dr. Doom, before all hope is lost!

As well as using the storyline in the movie Visual Concepts are also drawing story elements from the comic books to add a bit more weight, and some more scenarios to the game. In the game you can take on the role of any member of the Fantastic Four team and switch characters at any time. Along the way you will engage in combat with a host of enemies including Silver Surfer, Red Ghost, Terrax and Super Skrull.

Impressively the game will also allow for a 4-player co-op mode. We haven't confirmed as yet but we hope that, much like Marvel: Ultimate Alliance from Activision, you will be able to play the game online. Visual Concepts are promising that the environments will be destructible and with each member has unique special abilities that will help the team get through different situations - and cause even more destruction. while the team will be able to combine their talents together for more destructive attacks. The developers are also including a tonne of unlockables including alternate Fantastic Four costumes, historical comic covers, concept art and more!

The PS3's Sixaxis' tilt controls will also be used in the game. While we aren't sure of the exact mechanics as yet we can tell you that the controller will be able to perform mega boost attacks - basically a more powerful form of attack.

Graphics in the game don't look too great in these screenshots. The character models are nice enough but it's hard to get a sense of what this game will look like in action. I guess we'll leave that to be determined when we do up our review in a few weeks time.

There's one disappointment too... Jessica Alba declined to provide her likeness in the game apparently - so we're stuck with her body double which, let's face it, can't be too bad either.

One thing that is most interesting about Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer is the developer, Visual Concepts. That company, for many years, was most well known for their (almost always brilliant) sports games. In fact of the eight games listed on IGN that this company has either developed, or assisted in development on the PS3 this is the only non-sports title. Exactly how well the company makes the transition will be known in only a few weeks time. Expect this game to hit the shelves on June 15th.
