With rumours about Dead Space 3 doing the rounds as far back as September 2011 it has been a long wait for confirmation from Electronic Arts that their survival/horror/action series would be back yet again. There have been plenty of changes though with this title introducing co-op gameplay.
Dead Space 3 brings Isaac Clarke and merciless soldier John Carver on a journey across space to discover the source of the Necromorph outbreak. Crash-landed on the frozen planet of Tau Volantis, Isaac must comb the harsh environment for raw materials and scavenged parts. He will then put his engineering skills to the ultimate test to create and customize weapons and survival tools. The ice planet holds the key to ending the Necromorph plague forever, but first Isaac must overcome avalanches, treacherous ice-climbs, and the violent wilderness. Facing deadlier evolved enemies and the brutal elements, Isaac can choose to team up, not only for his own survival, but for that of mankind’s.
Dead Space 3 includes co-op gameplay.
As with previous games in the franchise this game is a third person action title, with a hell of a lot of frights built in. In fact, we consider this series the current pinnacle of "survival horror" titles with the audio making up much of the atmosphere in the title. If you've played previous games in the franchise (and you can read about or love of Dead Space 2here) then you will know what to expect from this third outing - although with a second player in tow (via drop-in, drop-out gameplay) the games dynamics may be changed a little although until we get extensive hands on time with the title we don't know if the inclusion of a co-op partner (at this stage we believe it is only online, and not split-screen) is a positive or negative for the franchise. The good news is that if you want to play the game on your own that's still possible.
Characters in Dead Space 3 are superbly detailed.
One element of this franchise that has always stood out is the audio visual presentation, and this game looks to retain the detailed visuals (complete with atmospheric - read: scary - lighting) and haunting audio which will keep you on the edge of your seat.
We loved the two original Dead Space games and we can't wait to get our hands on this third game on February 7 2013. The inclusion of co-op is interesting, we're not sure if playing this game with a friend may dampen the isolated nature which brought in much of the atmosphere in previous games but at this stage it looks like the developers know what they're doing and we're in for another very atmospheric, and scary, title.
