It won't be a surprise if you haven't heard of this game, nor the developer. A new franchise, and a new developer awaits as Codemasters picks up the publishing rights to Damnation and all-new action game which promises to make action in the vertical realm every bit as important as on the horizontal.

The developers are promising that this won't just be an action game, but will also include an 'epic and in-depth story' which focuses on the exploits of the hero Rourke as well as several other characters whose storylines interweave. What we do know about the story is that it focuses on a post-industrial conflict between humanity and an unstoppable arms dealer hell-bent on total world domination.

Players will be able to choose their own paths and navigate the world by performing daredevil feats on the edge of human ability. However players aren't the only ones with mind-blowing acrobatic skills; intelligent enemies will give chase and engage players in frantic gun fights and attacks that can come from any direction – in Damnation's world there’s no safe place to hide.

This game isn't just running around on the ground!
One of the most interesting aspects of this game is the promise that the levels in the game will stretch out for a massive 3 hours each, with miles to cover and 'thousands' of vertical feet to traverse. Now that's all brilliant to say, but we have to comment that if you've got 3 levels of 3 hours each how is that different from 27 levels at 20 minutes each? A selling point like that is only useful if the number of levels is also given. Anyway getting back to business, Damnation will also include a selection of vehicles including (to quote) 'motorbikes capable of launching across seemingly infinite chasms, to huge, armour-piercing marvels that will induce mayhem with every huge shell'. We assume the armour piercing marvels refers to some kind of tank!

As with any shooter the multi-player component will play a major part and Damnation will include a full set of multi-player options. As yet the game modes, number of players and options in online multi-player. Likewise we haven't heard anything about a split-screen mode at all.

Graphically Damnation looks pretty impressive. Texturing and level detail is impressive, and the character models also look pretty nice. One can only hope that it moves well with solid animation and the frame rate manages to hold steady.

What the!? Motorbikes on walls?
So who is Blue Omega Entertainment? Well going by their web site they have been behind (or at least involved with) two movies, Dark Ride and Danika, the latter being direct to DVD and with the movies scoring 4.7 and 5.8 on IMDB respectively. Fortunately game development is quite a different business so we're a bit more hopeful that with the clout of Codemasters behind them, this game will turn out better then their movies.

We can be pretty honest here and say that we have no idea what to expect from Damnation. This is Blue Omega's first game ever, but with Codemasters picking up the title there has to be something here which they see potential in. At the moment the game is targeted towards a May 2009 release following several delays. Stay tuned for much more closer to release.
