It would be no surprise if the majority of PS3 owners had never played Call of Juarez. The game was only ever released on the PC, and later to the XBox 360, where it received above average reviews and quite a legion of fans. Given that the PS3 had just launched as the original game came out it wasn't a surprise to see it bypass Sony's system. A couple of years on though and the second game, which is actually a prequel to the original, is about to be released, and the PS3 is one of the platforms.

Call of Juarez looks great on PS3.
The Old West, 1864. In order to save their family, the McCall brothers will kill anyone who stands between them and the legendary Gold of Juarez. But when the allure of women and money tests their bond as brothers, will the blood they share prove to be thicker?

Taking place from the Civil War-era Georgia to the Aztec ruins of Mexico this action game allows gamers to play as one of two characters. Ray is the older of the brothers, prefers a close combat style and tasks which require to use a brutal force. He is also the one who is deadly with dual guns and a dynamite. He is bigger and stronger allowing him to take more damage and carry heavy weapons such as the portable Gatling Gun. Thomas is the younger brother, chooses a long-range combat style which requires such weapons as rifles. He is also the stealthier of the brothers, which allows him to sneak and silently eliminate his opponents (using throwing knives). He also has a lasso which enables him to reach higher up locations. It will be possible to switch between these brothers during the game.

The game will include some multi-player modes with support for up to 12-players in online matches. The developers are including five different game modes, and 8 different maps to play on which is decent enough. Where this game shines though is the number of different classes available - 13 in total. Initially gunslinger, rifleman, miner, sniper, and native are available to gamers with scout, trapper, gunsmith, hombre, spy, officer, duelist, and veteran unlockable as your ranking and experience increases. In a rather unique twist the aim of the modes isn't simply to score the most kills, but earn the most money by killing players worth more value. A players value increases as they get a higher number of kills. It sounds intriguing.

As you can see from the surrounding screenshots, Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood certainly looks impressive with plenty of detail in the characters and a similar level of detail in the locations which certainly represent the era accurately.

It's rare to see video games set in the 1800's - it certainly isn't a century which can provide to much excitement due to the limited weapon rage, but it is exactly because of that fact which makes us quite excited about this game. With Ubisoft publishing this Techland developed title on the three main platforms (PS3, PC and 360) we expect the game to make a noise upon release.
