Yes this is an in-game screen with HUD showing.
While it didn't have a name a the time Electronic Arts announced way back in August 2008 that they were set to publish a new IP from Epic Games - the developers of Gears of War on the XBox 360, and of course the Unreal Engine which powers dozens of games across multiple platforms. Bulletstorm is one of the most exciting prospects of 2011 and with a release in late February it's not far away at all.

Set in a futuristic utopia, an elite peacekeeping force thwarts the rumblings of civil war. But deception within the ranks has caused two members of the most feared unit to strike out on their own. Now stranded on an abandoned paradise, Grayson Hunt and Ishi Sato find themselves surrounded by hordes of mutants and flesh eating gangs. They survive on two objectives: get off the planet alive and extract revenge on the man who sent them there.

Weapons are big, and powerful, in Bulletstorm.
As Grayson Hunt, players wield an arsenal of over-the-top combat moves and outrageously large guns that feed into Bulletstorm's distinct 'skillshot' system producing unprecedented levels of frantic gameplay and yell- inducing satisfaction

While it could be said this is a First Person Shooter, that's about where similarities to many other games end. This game is more about the style in which you kill the enemies. The more skill you use to kill them the more skill points you'll earn and the more you earn the better the weapons you'll be able to unlock or upgrade. So what kind of skills are available? Well not only can you shoot opponents, but you can also use an electric whip to launch them in the air before taking them out, or kick them in the, well, wherever to inflict some major damage. Of course you can combine these, and more, skills to earn even more points. In typical RPG style you'll also be able to upgrade your character with more skills throughout the game.

Kicking someone over the edge.
Perhaps what makes this game so exciting is that while People Can Fly (Painkiller) are doing the main development work the game is closely being overseen by Epic Games with Cliff Bleszinski checking the game on a daily basis and Epic's art director Chris Perna overseeing the visuals. Indeed as you can see from the surrounding screenshots this is really a pretty gorgeous game, but see it in motion and this reaches a while new level of cool - and brutality.

With only a month until release, and a demo available on the PlayStation Store right now, this game is shaping up very nicely indeed. If you like action games then this is shaping up very well with our only concern being the game being awards an MA15+ rating with a modified version - although that doesn't mean that it will be any different to the American/UK game.
