Of course the game is filled with action
The Assassin's Creed franchise has been one of the most successful of this generation and despite having the number "3" in the title, this is, in fact, the fifth game in the franchise. This latest game has been in development for over two years now, and sees a major shift from earlier times to a more "modern" American Civil War setting which offers up some unique, and new, gameplay.

The year is 1775. The American colonies are about to revolt. You are Connor, an assassin who has sworn to secure liberty for his people and his nation. To do so, you will hunt your enemies across a staggeringly large, open, and realistic world. You will unleash your lethal skills in a violent quest that will take you from chaotic city streets to blood-soaked battlefields in the hostile American wilderness and beyond. You will meet legendary heroes of American history, and together you will conspire to annihilate those who threaten Liberty itself.

Rather then buildings, you can now climb in trees.
Unsurprisingly Assassin's Creed III doesn't stray from the formula that has made this one of the biggest selling franchises of this generation - this is still very much a third person action game, with plenty of stealth elements. The biggest change which this game brings is a shift in location to the American frontier which brings some new gameplay elements. As seen in the E3 demo Connor doesn't need to only fear humans as wildlife will also offer danger - in one demo he gets attacked by wolves, in another trailer, by a grizzly bear. With the focus taken outside large cities the developers have ensured there is still plenty of climbing with Connor able to climb trees and move along limbs making stealthy attacks from above a viable option.

At Sony's Presentation at the E3 Show a new feature for the franchise was demonstrated - that being the ability to command large sailing ships and then enter combat with others. This really is spectacularly realised with gorgeous water and wonderful battle sequences. Also announced at the 2012 E3 Show was the fact that the PS3 version of this game would come in a bundle pack with the console, and that there would be exclusive DLC for the console. There wasn't much detail announced, expect more closer to release.

Just going for a paddle down the stream.
Assassin's Creed III is the first game to use the AnvilNext engine which includes several enhancements including the ability to render over 1000 characters on-screen (we're guessing important for the large battle scenes). Also new is the weather cycling and ability for the game world changes over time (for instance enemy settlements may move depending on actions within the world).

If you were wondering if this game will be big - well reports are that this game is already taking over ten times the number of pre-orders as last years game. That's very impressive indeed and the change in time period and location looks set to inject a major amount of freshness to the series. The game is due out October 30 in America, and October 31 in Europe and Australia. Looks like one to watch - or indeed pre-order (preferbly through our link at the top of this page!).
