Taking to the skies.
From Software have a long history of game development dating back more then a decade but by far their biggest franchise is that of Armored Core. This game, Armored Core: for Answer is actually the thirteenth game in the multi-million selling series, and the second game in the franchise to hit the Playstation 3.

In the distant future, massive urban development and pollution have critically damaged the planet. There is widespread fear that the end of the world is approaching. The League corporations, a military superpower, control the planet’s infrastructure and have forced most of the world’s population to live in huge aerial communities, called Cradles, to avoid the contamination. The ORCA, a rebel resistance still residing on the surface of the polluted planet, have amassed a formidable arsenal and are mobilizing to attack The League’s bases to put an end to their iron grip on the planet. As a mercenary armed with cutting-edge military robot technology, choose your side and defeat the other factions by harnessing the power of the deadliest and most gigantic weapons ever created by mankind.

Water is nice, shame it's not an in-game screen.
During the game it is possible to chose your side among three factions - The League, The ORCA and the independent city states - each of which have their own strengths and weaknesses, and with three endings to the game you'll want to try each. The developers at From Software have included two different control schemes, one for beginners to the game, and another for the more advanced players. Battles now take place in daylight or during low visibility nighttime settings. Changing weather and time modify the battlefields which can include snow fields, deserts, oceans, underground and in cities. Many of these environments, including the cities, are destructible. As with any mech based games one of the key components is the ability to customize the mechs with hundreds of parts and weapons. Indeed this game includes 130 new parts bringing the total up to 400 parts. Though these enhancements comes improved abilities, and better weapons.

One of the firsts for this game is the inclusion of giant boss battles - 10 in all - where you will take on colossal mobile battle stations. You will need to find their weaknesses to take them out. You don't have to do that on your own though as the game now includes over 30 co-op missions to complete. When you don't want to work together you can jump into battle with 7 other gamers in over 80 different battlegrounds.

Flying towards the helipad!
From Software's Armored Core titles have never been at the forefront of graphics technology, and we have to say that from what we have seen this game won't be setting the graphics world on fire either. The mechs themselves look quite impressive, but the backgrounds still a little drab. Still, that's never stopped the game in the past and we'll just be hoping for a solid frame rate.

Time will tell if Armored Core for Answer is actually any good however if you're into mech based games you don't really have much option on the PS3. Certainly one of the most exciting aspects is the inclusion of online gameplay which could chew up countless hours. Expect a release in late November.
