About to tee off.
Let's face it. Golf isn't everyone's cup of tea. There's no blood, it can take hours to complete one game, and, well it's just not the most exciting thing to look at. But Electronic Arts know how to make a game and the numerous game modes, players, courses and presentation made it exciting.

Indeed Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004 is rated as the greatest golf game ever. It has the highest average of over 100 games listed on Game Rankings with a score of just under 90% (89.3% to be precise) and is ranked as the 11th best Playstation 2 game released during all of 2003. That's a stunning statistic.

Here's the man.. Tiger Woods.
The PAL version of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004 was almost as good as the American version, except for one MAJOR omission - online gameplay. That was ripped out of the game at the last minute. For shame. I mean online golf can't be the hardest thing to get running through broadband can it? Well that was last years bad news. The good news this year is that Electronic Arts have promised that online gameplay will make it into the PAL version. But that's not all that's in this game. Let's have a look at the rest.

Eight new licensed courses and two new fantasy courses have been added for a total of 14 courses. New licensed courses include Coeur d'Alene and Colonial Country Club, Sherwood Country Club, Fancourt Golf Club Estate, and Troon North - Monument Course. Returning favorites Pebble Beach Golf Links, St Andrews Links, and TPC at Sawgrass are also included along with three original designs including Greek Isles, Paradise Cove, or Emerald Dragon. It's an impressive list that will have you playing for weeks to master all the courses.

One of the stunning courses.
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005 includes 15 of the worlds top golfers including Tiger Woods, John Daly, Vijay Singh, Charles Howell III, Notah Begay III, and Jesper Parnevik, among others. Additionally, 14 new fantasy characters will challenge you on the links.

The create a player (which is the upgraded Game Face from last years title, called Game Face II according to EA) and career modes have returned to the game. It will be possible to play along with the 52-week PGA TOUR calendar of events for up to 10 seasons. Obtain sponsorships from real golf equipment manufacturers throughout your career and drive to surpass Tiger as number one on the overall money list. The Legends Tour is also an option and allows you to play alongside greats such as Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, and Ben Hogan.

Nice shirt.
One major new addition to this game is TigerProofing. This allows you to modify the course dynamics to make it more, or less, Tiger friendly. Alter tee-box length, width and patterns on fairways and greens, the depth of a greenside bunker, and even the color of the leaves on the trees, course moisture, and the season which you play. The ultimate objective is to create your dream 18 with a combination of your favorite holes, increasing course difficulty with money you earn on the Legends Tour building a prestige rating that will attract PGA TOUR Pros and legends to your course.

The PS2 game will also include real-time events. Using the internal clock of the console actual events will appear at different times of the year. For instance you may be invited to the British Open if you're in the right time of year.

Buildings like Athens...
Graphics have always been pretty special in these games - it's not really like the Playstation 2 has to push millions of polygons, but the animation is second to none. Sound is, well, golfy... but David Feherty and Gary McCord will provide the commentary through the game.

The additions to Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005 ensure it will be a winner. There are no dramatic gameplay changes from previous titles which isn't surprising given the success of those games, and finally PAL gamers will be able to play online. Expect a release in September.
