Graphics do look impressive
When Konami announced that they were making a game based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles a year ago in January 2003 the industry (that being journos) was somewhat surprised, but many were also quite happy to be returning to an old favourite. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles stars the famed heroes Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael and their legendary foe, Shredder. This game is a 3D fighting game at its heart with players taking control of their favourite turtle to defeat the enemies infesting the city.

What the hell is a conbo?
This game is split up into 35 levels set across 6 main stages. Hopefully the game will also include interaction with objects in the game world to use as weapons, although this is yet to be confirmed. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will include 2 game modes. The first is a Story Mode which allows 2-players to progress through the levels co-operatively. The second mode is a Vs mode where you and a friend can battle head-to-head.Each turtle will have normal attacks inclusing a basic punch and sweep amonng others, but each tutle will also have a special move which is unlocked by completing a dojo level with Master Splinter.

The four heroes.
As you can see from the surrounding screenshots this game uses cell-shaded graphics to marvellous effect which conveys the look of the cartoon series perfectly. The cut scenes are apparently taken straight from the TV series which, so their quality is pretty much assured. The developers have also apparently secured the real voice actors used in the TV series.

CRASH!!!
Who would have thought that after so much time the worlds four most famous turtles would make a comeback, and indeed there is a new cartoon series - although I am yet to see it. The problem with this game is that those of us who used to follow the original series have grown up and moved on to more "mature" games while today's generation hasn't had any real experience with the TMNT phenomenon and may overlook this title. If John Woo had made an updated CG movie based on the four heroes as was considered by the movie studios, this game could have had a lot more followers. Still, even if there aren't many fans left this game can still be a great title. Expect an Australian release in late April/early May.
