Along the railway tracks.
While Capcom has action adventure games such as Resident Evil, Devil May Cry and the upcoming Chaos Legion on Playstation 2, Konami has a series which many people believe surpass Capcom's efforts. That series is Silent Hill. While the first game appeared on the PSOne way back in 1999 and sold over a million units the sequel, Silent Hill 2 appeared on the PS2 in 2001 and not only sold by the truckload but also earned glowing reviews. It is absolutely no surprise that a third game would be developed, and it looks even more stunning, and shocking, then the first.

This game is bloody.. bloody.
As yet there isn't a terrific amount known about the storyline to this game as Konami have been keeping pretty quiet about this aspect of the title. Silent Hill 3 is an entirely new chapter set in the series' monster-infested town, Silent Hill 3 introduces players to the harrowing adventures of Heather Morris. Although Heather is just a regular 'teen that enjoys hanging out with friends at the local mall, her world is suddenly turned upside down when the mall becomes overrun with gruesome monsters and disgusting half-dead creatures.

One of the cut scenes.
Now, armed with only the weapons that she finds (including steel poles, pistols and machine guns) scattered throughout the town, Heather must face her own fears, unlock the mysteries of the town and destroy the monsters if she is going to survive. As with past titles in the series, Silent Hill 3 has a complex storyline with so many twists, it raises as many questions as it answers.

Silent Hill 3 contains even deeper and darker secrets that are waiting to be uncovered. Fans and newcomers to the series will find their wits tested, as they grapple with clever puzzles, foreboding environments, and mysterious new characters. In addition, players will be able to use new weapons and items to battle grotesque creatures. Developed by the same team that created the first two critically acclaimed games, Silent Hill 3 promises to be the most horrifying game to date.

There is plenty of dark imagry.
Once again the graphics in this title are stunning. Using the Playstation 2's power the development team have included even better effects then before. Once again the graphics can be quite disturbing and it would be no surprise to see this game given an MA15+ rating in Australia. Let's just hope scenes don't have to be cut. As for the sound, well, that has always played a crucial part in the series and once again we can expect a disc choc full of eerie sounds and music.

Konami recently surprised many by announcing a May 23rd release date in Europe, the same day as Japan, and some time before the American release date. Australia should also release around this date although Gamenation currently has the game listed for June 13th. Is that a sign of classification issues? Unknown. This is one game to keep a close eye on.
