Taking to the skies.
C'mon Sega. I can sense the company is on the verge of bursting back to the top of the developer list - especially with their very early, and quite strong, showing for the next generation. But the company isn't finished with the current generation - a generation where the company, despite some solid titles, has failed to sell games in large quantities and has also seen the company merge into Sammy. Shadow the Hedgehog is one of the companies big releases for 2005 and looks set to take the franchise in a brand new direction - deeper, darker, and with a whole lot more attitude.

Gorgeous Hedgehog graphics.
Created as the Ultimate Life Form, Shadow is a rebel tormented by a dark past, and he is struggling to unveil his true identity. Was he created to save humankind or to do the evil bidding of the dark side? His only clues are his own forgotten memories, and those secrets can only be unlocked through the powers of seven Chaos Emeralds.

Now, Shadow’s once peaceful planet is under siege by a malevolent force. The government must take whatever means necessary to stop this deadly attack. Timing is critical and the Chaos Emeralds are at the heart of it all. In order to secure the Emeralds, Shadow must play both sides…but the path he takes will ultimately be up to you!

Using weapons.
With over 20 stages and 50 missions fo complete the biggest change to this series is the open-ended storyline. It's your choice to produce positive or dire consequences in Shadow's future by the paths you choose. You chose the path of good, or the path of evil. Another major change is the inclusion of weapons, vehicles, and items in the game. You will now have access to projectiles, firearms, bazookas, blasters and worm lasers. Speed away on a motorcycle, an alien craft or an SUV, and, for the first time ever in a Sonic property, pick up and use environmental objects like poles, sticks and debris to plow your way through the mission.

More nice effects.
If that wasn't enough the developers are set to include a two-player competitive mode which will likely take place through a split-screen mode. As you can see the graphics in this game look faithful to previous games in the series, but we can only hope that the controls are a little sharper then those in Sonic Heroes which wass released in early 2004.

We're pretty excited by and new game from Sega here at Future Gamez but Shadow the Hedgehog looks like the best in the current generation. With a release set for November in America PAL gamers should be looking for a release just in time for Christmas.
