Flying to the enemies.
If there is one platform/action game that can eclipse Naughty Dog's Jak & Daxter series then it would be Insomniac's Ratchet and Clank. While the first games were released a year apart their sequels were both released to much critical acclaim just prior to Christmas last year. What makes this all so interesting is that Naughty Dog and Insomniac actually share their technology, hence the similar looking graphic style. Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal (which I think is the greatest name ever for a game) isn't just another platformer however with the inclusion of 4-player split screen action and, wait for it, online gameplay!

Featuring single-player and introducing new multiplayer offline and online gameplay, Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal aims to push the action platform genre even further to deliver one of the most exciting and fulfilling single-player and multiplayer experiences ever.

Some of the awesome visuals.
Let's start with the single player game. Players will have the ability to earn up to 15 new weapons with up to four levels of upgrades for most weapons. Weapon upgrades can be unlocked by killing enemies and can increase the amount of damage to enemies as well as change the weapon’s functionality. Ratchet and Clank will be able to earn new high-tech gadgets along the way to help them navigate through the universe. Players will gain access to new vehicles, like the Turbo Slider or Hovership, to compete in races and combat enemies in intense battlefield missions. Some great news for those of you using a memory card from Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando, players will have the ability to obtain a few favorite returning weapons for free!

4-player split screen action.
Multi-player is the major addition to this title, and the one area which will get gamers most excited. First of all Indsomniac have includes split screen action for two or four players. Sounds good. But the best news is that Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal will include online support for 8 players. Six additional levels for online play provide plenty of diverse surroundings featuring destructible environment obstacles. By working with their team, players can capture and destroy their competitors’ base by using their arsenal of weapons to overpower their enemies. Other modes for online play will also be available. Vehicles in the multiplayer mode are equipped for co-op gameplay, allowing players to work together as one person controls the direction of the vehicle while the other unleashes the powerful arsenal of weapons included with the vehicle. Finally, the USB headset will also be included for in-game, or the lobby.

Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal is shaping up as a magnificant game in and already stunning series. The inclusion of multi-player split screen is excellent, the addition of online action astounding. Expect a release in November 2004.
