Battlefields look atmospheric.
Do you like tank games? If so, then Panzer Elite Action from Zootfly is a game that should generate some interest. Actually, it should generate quite a bit of interest even if you're not a tank fanatic as it's one of the best looking tank games we've seen in a considerable time. One of the most interesting aspects of this game is that you don't simply follow the fortunes of a single tank, or tank crew, but rather follow the story of three tank commanders and their fortunes during World War II giving you a feel of each side (German, Russian and American) and some of the most intense battles of the war.

The German commander, flushed with the success of the Blitzkrieg in Poland and France, moves on to the Eastern Front and the brink of victory with the taking of Stalingrad. We meet the Russian commander in desperate straits as he helps defend Stalingrad, and follow him as the tide turns against the Germans as he joins the massive tank battle of Kursk. The American commander enters the war on the Normandy Beachhead on D-Day. After the struggle for the Bocage he defends the German counter-offensive at the Battle of the Bulge, and then drives on to the victorious crossing of the Rhine.

Enemies on the road!
Panzer Elite Action takes place over 18 missions split up over the 3 different campaigns with many of the largest battles of the war recreated from Stalingrad to the tank battle of Kursk to the Beaches of Normandy. The levels will be filled with opposing tanks, infantry, airplanes and vehicles.

What remains a little up in the air still is online support. The PC game at least will include multi-player for up to 32 players at a time and new maps and vehicles will be available for download after release. While the latter is unlikely for PS2 given the lack of storage medium there is a chance of some LAN or online gameplay being included. We'll have to wait for confirmation of that still though.

OK, one more screenshot.
Don't expect the highest production values or slickest graphics or sound - this was always quite a niché title with limited sales potential - but the developers look to have done enough. From what we have seen of the game in action the graphics engine looks decent enough with some nice effects, plenty of action on the battlefield.

Panzer Elite Action looks like a very solid tank game. With a release date currently targeted at February 24th (my Birthday no less!) this is a game which miliatary buffs should keep an eye out for.
