Stadiums really look impressive.

Oh it's a big week this week as we look at not only the next game in EA Sports' Madden NFL on PS2, but also Madden Next Generation for next generation systems. But let's take a look at what is shaping up as possibly the last great Madden NFL title on PS2. First thing to note, the game appears to have undergone a slight name change with Madden NFL 06, dropping the full year - not sure why, or if that change will carry through to PAL territories (EA Australia still name the title as Madden 2006).

Note the Quarterback vision.
For the first time in 10 years, the Madden NFL Football franchise has revolutionized its passing gameógiving Madden NFL 06 the most groundbreaking and innovative offensive arsenal ever created. The Quarterback Vision Control is certain to add a new dynamic to the game. Each QB has a different field of vision, depending on his rating (which you can see in the game highlighted by the light on the field). Passing to someone in the vision typically results in the better chance of a good reception, passing to someone outside it reduces the chances. It's an interesting addition to the series and only time will tell if it adds much to the gameplay or is as effective as possible.

Pass to Williams or Rogers.
One new game mode in Madden 2006 is the NFL Superstar Mode. This entirely new single-player mode allows you to experience the life of an NFL player by earning one of more than 60 Personas ranging from MVP to Movie Star. What does it mean - to be honest we're still not sure and it doesn't sound like too much really, but all should be revealed soon.

Madden NFL 06 is also an interesting game in that it will be the only game to feature the NFL license with EA signing an exclusivity deal with the NFL some months ago. Other games based on American Football won't have official endorsement, teams or players.

The game isn't too far away now with an American release currently scheduled for August, and Australia only weeks after the American launch in mid-September.
