Jaws takes to the air!
The 1975 movie Jaws was a success for a number of reasons. Not only did it gross a whopping $US470 million around the globe (adjusted for inflation that would be $US1.48 billion - or the 7th biggest grossing movie of all time), but also the career of a certain director known as Steven Spielberg. Thirty-one years after the movies release development of a Jaws game is nearing completion (no, they haven't been developing it that long before you ask!), and it actually looks quite entertaining. There is a twist to Jaws Unleashed, rather then playing the humans you play as the shark! Game on...

Well he's a gonner.
Amity Island is growing, making corporate connections with prestigious companies like Environplus to improve the Islandís economy. Unfortunately the increased population around the Island and recent industrial activity has also attracted YOU--one of Earthís most fearsome creatures - a Great White Shark. When the Environplus CEOís son falls prey to your deadly attacks, the CEO hires renowned shark hunter Cruz Ruddock to track and kill you. Meanwhile, Marine Biologist Michael Brody tries to capture you for research. Can Ruddock and Brody stop you from causing havoc and killing more people before the 4th of July celebration?

Thankfully, there's blood.
You can consider Jaws Unleashed as an underwater GTA. How's that you ask? Well besides working on the main missions and story gamers can freely explore the world, partake in side missions, or cause all sorts of unplanned mayhem. In terms of attack besides using Jaws' massive, ermm, jaws you can also use a tail flick, and nose ram as well as some more specialised attacks. Not only can people and animals be harmed, but it's possible to cause significant damage to many other objects in the game world. Naturally, being a shark you can use your shark vision to spot your victims before they know youíre coming and target lock on enemies from afar.

See the foot floating?
At times you will encounter bosses including killer whales, powerful boats and more. How do you defeat a boat? Well, take out the motor, then pick it apart bit by bit - all while avoiding the humans of course. As well as the main story mode the developers are including 32 smaller side-missions. These include timed destruction, stealth, chase and others.

From what we heard from the E3 show there were still some very minor camera issues and graphical glitches which will hopefully be fixed before the game hits the shelves in PAL territories. Fans of the claret will be pleased to hear there's plenty of blood in this game, as you can see in these screens. We also believe that the game will use the classic Jaws theme from the movies.

Smashing through the glass.
Jaws Unleashed is an interesting take on the legendary movie. As well as having its own story mode, and plenty of side quests, the ability to swim around the world freely, or cause all type of mayhem the game also has a developer with a background in underwater games. Appaloosa Interactive was the company behind the Sega published Ecco the Dolphin some years ago. Fortunately, the developers have obviously improved their game engine since those early PS2 days. Jaws Unleashed, with its more combat centered gameplay, should be more exciting then their previous title, and it's a title which we're quite keen to test out. Expect Jaws Unleashed to hit the shops in late October.
