Scrat; pure classic.
I love Ice Age. To me it's the greatest CG animated movie of all time. Perhaps not technically, that honor still goes to Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, but in terms of humour there's no doubt that the movie is one of the best. Indeed with a worldwide gross of over $US380 million (around $AU505 million) a sequel was virtually assured and indeed Ice Age 2: The Meltdown is coming out in cinemas in April, and a video game is also in the works thanks to Vivendi. While we haven't seen the game in action yet - obviously Vivendi are slightly tied by contracts to not spoil the movie, we do have some info, and these impressive screens.

Run, Scrat, Run.
The storyline (and game) goes a little like this... The Ice Age is ending and our subzero heroes return in this action adventure video game set in a melting paradise of water parks, geysers and tar pits. Manny the Mammoth, Sid the Sloth and Diego the Sabre-Toothed Tiger are back and realize that the melting glaciers will soon flood their valley. With the help of everyone’s favourite sabre-toothed squirrel from the first movie, Scrat, help your big friends cross the perilous landscape to safety.

Graphics do look pretty nice.
We don't really know much about the gameplay in Ice Age 2: The Meltdown as yet but Vivendi has confirmed that the lovable Scrat will dig, swim, sniff, spin and roll in his never-ending quest to collect acorns. In the process, he serves as the unwitting hero in the quest to save the land from a giant flood. As you can see in the screen below at least part of the game seems to be a precision timing based game, much like the Dance Dance Revolution games - albeit without the dance mat.

Looks like a button pressing game...
As Peter Della Penna, Chief Operating Officer, Product Development for VU Games states “We are excited to continue our successful partnership with Fox to create an extension of the Ice Age story in a fully engaging interactive entertainment experience. Academy Award®-winning animation studio Blue Sky has contributed an impressive visual style and hilarious storyline for our development partners to turn into great family gaming.”

Obviously much of this game is still under wraps due to restrictions from Fox, but the screens and info that have been released show promise. This is certain to be one of the biggest movies this year and this is a game which both kids, and adults, will love.
