It looks as stunning as SSX Tricky.
While EA's SSX Tricky is likely to capture the majority of the market late this year THQ's Dark Summit may end up being the more exciting title. This isn't just a straight out racing title but rather puts the player on the slopes to complete a series of missions and tasks. The game has a solid storyline and with visuals that are pretty close to EA's game this could be just as exciting. Prepare to uncover the mystery atop Mt. Garrick as you complete this game.

It's not overly detailed, but is fast.
Snowboarders have never felt welcome on Mt. Garrick, a once quiet and peaceful ski resort. Chief O' Leary, the resident ranger, has led the charge against boarders and limited their access to certain sections of the mountain. But the situation has progressed. Chief O'Leary has mysteriously closed the summit to all boarders and is trying desperately to drive them off the mountain.

Shred, jib and stomp sick tricks in the first ever mission-based snowboarding game. Free ride this vast mountain and earn currency to purchase new equipment and unlock restricted areas on your way to the summit. But be prepared, Chief O'Leary will not go down without a fight.

Expect plenty of close chases.
Dark Summit includes and impressive 45 mountain based challenges and missions which are quite varied. Obviously the game takes place on snowboards but the number of stunts and moves that can be performed is nothing to sneeze at. The game also includes plenty of high tech equipment upgrades including boards, bindings and gear that will help you on your quest. The game also includes big air tricks, which are unique to the game. They are high flying, crazy and death defying. While the single player mode looks solid enough the multiplayer aspect also looks pretty good with competitions in mountain challenges, the half pipe and more. It's possible to select from six playable snowboarders in multiplayer mode, each with their own characteristics, personality & attitude.

The game includes many drop-offs.
Dark Summit is a promising title. The video footage released by THQ shows a very fast, and rather exciting, game with decent enough graphics. Finding a sport/racing game with a storyline is pretty rare, but if it works, it should prove to be a breath of fresh air. THQ have definitely been improving the quality of their titles over recent years with their latest games such as Red Faction and MX2002 Featuring Ricky Charmichael both proving to be exciting and quite solidly developed titles. This game looks set to add even more credibility to a company who was the laughing stock of the industry a decade ago, but is now one of the biggest, and best, publishers. Expect Dark Summit to hit the shelves just in time for Christmas.
