Bzzzzz.
The release of Destroy All Humans! really couldn't come at a better time for the publishers THQ. The game is being released only days before a certain Steven Spielber &l Tom Cruise movie called War of the Worlds. Why is this relevant to this game? As many of you have probably seen from the screenshots this is a game about aliens invading earth although the theme of the game is more in line with the classic Mars Attacks movie then the Spielberg actioner. The real kick is that you don't play the humans trying to stop the invasion of earth, but rather you play the aliens trying to take control - by any means necessary. It's clear to see why the developers, publisher, press and gamers have generated so much hype for this game and fortunately it looks like Pandemic Studios (developers of Star Wars: Battlefront and Mercenaries) are getting this game just right.

Very nice graphics.
In Destroy All Humans! you play the role of Crypto, an alien warrior sent to Earth to clear the way for the Furon invasion force. Your mission is to infiltrate humanity, control them, harvest their brain stems and ultimately destroy them. You choose the method - infiltration or disintigration! It may sound menacing and rather brutal but this game has more in common with Mars Attacks then Aliens. While playing this game you are able to arm yourself with a variety of alien weaponary on land or in the air. These include the ever reliable Ion detonator, the Zap-o-Matic, the Sonic Boom, or even the Quantum Deconstructor to eradicate feeble humans.

Flying around in the UFO.
As an alien you are able to explore and interact with 5 huge environments using an arsenal of alien abilities to manipulate humas into submission: hypotize, body-snatch, read minds, levitate and more. It's not all action, however, as the game includes moments where you must sneak around and remain hidden. It remains to be seen if this stealthy part plays a major role in the game. Also, and as you can see in the screenshot below, it is possible to take to the skies in your UFO, abduct animals, cars, and humans for research, or cause large-scale destruction. As you progress through the missions an alien by the name of Pox appears to issue new instructions. The excanges between Pox and Crypto should prove to be a highlight of the game.

That's gotta hurt!
If this game doesn't get you excited, or at least generate moderate interest, then you probably have no interest in games. Destroy All Humans! is shaping up as the coolest, most B-movie game ever and with a sense of humour not far removed from the classic movie Mars Attacks we can expect plenty of entertainment. There has already been a couple of dalays for this game, it was originally scheduled for release late last year, but it doesn't matter. Pandemic Studios have proven themselves as strong and reliable developers in recent years and this game should only cement that tag further. Expect an Australian release through THQ in late June 2005.
