Some of the on-foot action.
Another year, another Crash Bandicoot game. This one is a little different however. Much like the original PSOne saw a Crash Bandicoot racing game towards the end of its life with Crash Team Racing so the Playstation 2 sees the same pattern with Crash Tag Team Racing set for release in late 2005 - just as the focus shifts to the next generation. Funnily enough Naughty Dog, who developed the original Crash Bandicoot games on PSOne, have announced that they will be releasing a racing game based on their PS2 series Jak & Daxter. One of the most exciting things about Vivendi's game however is that it is being developed at Radical Entertainment, the same studio that brought us the magnificent The Simpsons: Hit & Run game a couple of years ago (where's the sequel to that one guys!!).

Nice effects.
The newest addition to the best-selling video game franchise will give players a unique racing experience and allow them to continue the adventure on foot with out-of-car action. Unlike Jak X it will be possible to hop out of the car and continue racing on foot in Crash Tag Team Racing - an interesting, and potentially very fun move.

For the first time ever in a racing game, players will be able to fuse two cars together on the fly to form a super vehicle with the all-new 'clashing' technology. Combine your car with an opponent's mid-race to make a super-car equipped with a powerful 360° rotating turret gun. When clashed, either get behind the wheel and drive or fire your onboard weapon. Explore the entire world on foot, collect upgrades for your car and unlock bonus tracks.

Crash... alone.
One thing that remains up in the air a little is support for online gameplay. As yet Vivendi have only confirmed that the game will support 8-players via split screen LAN play. You would assume that with LAN running it wouldn't be too hard to get online gameplay running as well. Time will tell.

It will be interesting to see how well Crash Tag Team Racing manages to combine vehicle racing with on-foot sections of game. Graphically the game looks as bold and colourful as previous games while the sound is, well, Crash Bandicoot through and through. Expect a release in time for Christmas 2005.
