Great lush jungle visuals.
Sci's Conflict: Desert Storm and Conflict Desert Storm II games have both been massive hits amassing sales in excess of 3.5 million units to date. With the Iraq war still going (Bush declared it was over a year or so too early), the move for this series to the Vietnam location rather then Middle East is either very good luck, or great foresight. Releasing a game set in the Middle East at the moment is quite a risky venture as interest, and sales, could be swayed by current events. Having said that the move to Vietnam also means the series will remain fresh and keep gamers interested.

Mown down in the firefight.
Unlike Conflict: Desert Storm, Conflict: Vietnam does not set out to depict the course of the war; instead it bears witness to four men struggling for survival in the hostile Vietnam jungle against a ruthless terrain and seemingly ever-present ‘invisible’ enemy. The story of Conflict: Vietnam follows the progress of four US soldiers, cut off from their unit and behind enemy lines during the 1968 Tet Offensive. Tasked with fighting their way back to friendly lines, they are faced with day-to-day survival in a hostile environment where the enemy could be hiding anywhere and everywhere. They are un-concerned with the course of the war but brutally aware as to the presence of the Viet Cong and of finding any way they can to survive.

The game looks wonderful.
Conflict: Vietnam is a third person shooter where the player takes full control of all four squad members, utilising their different skill sets and tactical abilities to carefully out-flank enemies, neutralise targets and potential threats and make it back to friendly lines in one piece. It's pretty straightforward but Sci will be looking at bringing much of the excitement of previous titles to this new location.

In the gunboat.
The game is made up of fourteen huge missions, each with a number of individual and varying objectives. You will lead your squad through ruined temples, down Vietnamese rivers, into local villages (with friendly and non-friendly fire) through the jungle and into the ancient Vietnamese capital of Hoi.

Conflict: Vietnam is shaping up as one of the best war based action titles ever. Graphically it looks stunning and as with previous titles we can expect the sound to have the same high standards and plenty of impact. Expect a release in Australia around September 11, 2004. The game will, however, have some competition as it comes out in the same month as the recently delayed Shellshock Nam '67 - especially now that that game has been re-classified to a MA15+ rating after being Refused Classification.
