Excellent detail levels.
World War II. June 6, 1944 - D-Day - The downfall of Nazi Germany's occupation of Europe begins with the Allied invasion of France. The campaign is supported by more than 17,000 U.S. and British paratroopers, dropped behind enemy lines prior to the assault on the beaches of Normandy. These brave troops pave the way for the Allies by attacking the German forces from inside occupied Europe, fighting their way through enemy territory to thwart the Nazi war machine from within. Their battles lead them through rolling hills, open plains, small farms and war-torn cities throughout France, Holland and Belgium.

Mummy, I broke my plane...
Eventually some prove themselves worthy of the ultimate challenge: preventing German development of a weapon that could forever change the face of Europe; the atomic bomb. This dangerous mission takes them into the very heart of the Axis; The Fatherland. Obviously in a game like this the storyline has to follow actual factual events, but it will be the little extras in the storyline that can, and will, make a difference - and that part of the game remains to be seen.

A gorgeous winter landscape.
Acclaim seems to be attempting to cash in on the 60th anniversary of "D-Day" with a June release date and “honoring the memories” (heck, they even promote it in the games press release) which may leave a sour taste in some mouths, but as a game Combat Elite: World War II Paratroopers certainly looks impressive. With over 40 levels the game re-creates some of the most important battles of World War II. These battles include D-Day, Operation Market Garden and the winter defense of Bastogne. Starting out the game as a Private it is possible to earn promotions which then allows you to customise soldiers with new skills and abilities. Of course this will all be backed up with historically accurate weapons, equipment and devices.

A two-player mode is also promised for co-operative gameplay through the levels. Sadly, it doesn't look like there will be any online gameplay which would suit this game perfectly.

One dead soldier, hundreds to go.
The development team, BattleBorne Entertainment, are made up of developers who worked on several impressive games in the past including the Producer of Fallout 2 and Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance as well as the Lead Artist for Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon - all high quality titles. In addition, the game will utilize the proven Snowblind Studios game engine (Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance) which will ensure a potentially great looking title.

Ever since the very earliest computer games war has been a major theme. Why wouldn't it be - two opposing sides battling to the end and a chance to become a hero. Combat Elite: World War II Paratroopers certainly looks like a great title with some solid graphics from Snowblind's game engine. This is one game worth keeping an eye on. Expect a September release.
