Alien Vs Predator - it's on!
Aliens versus Predator: Extinction isn't quite the Aliens Vs Predator game that we'd been hoping to eventually see on the PS2. The PC game of that name is a First Person Shooter - and a rather high quality one at that. This game, developed by Zono Inc, is actually a strategy game involving the two most feared aliens in cinematic history as well as another feared warrior - humans. Before you ask who Zono Inc is they have developed a game called Metal Fatigue on PC which was a respectable, if not overly ambitious title.

The squad opens fire.
After a small unit of Colonial Marines dispatched to planet LV-742 reveals the presence of both Predators and Aliens, it is decided that the conflict must end and there is only one clear path to total universal supremacy, WAR! You must defeat your enemies to ensure the survival of your species… or face Extinction.

As you can probably see in the surrounding screenshots Aliens Vs Predator Extinction is a real-time strategy game, you can create and control your forces as one of 3 species across 21 single player missions (seven as marine, seven as alien and seven as the predator) which are set in a variety of terrain such as tropical jungles, caverns, desert settlements and high tech laboratories. Decide your attack strategy; order your own custom army from a list of units, choosing upgrades that range from enemy detecting vision modes to devastating weapon enhancements.

"If it bleeds, we can kill it"
Each species offers unique attributes. As the Colonial Marines, you will count on your military training and the latest hi-tech weaponry from the Weyland-Yutani Corporation to save the human population of LV-742. The Predators must use their stealth and highly evolved hunting techniques to gain the respect of the council of Ancients. Aliens will attack in hordes to incapacitate their enemies, impregnating them and using them to evolve into the ultimate biological weapons.

The game allows you to select from 10 upgradeable combat units per species from low-end grunts to ultra-specialized warriors like the Alien Carrier (able to bring terrifying face huggers to the battlefront), the extremely brutal and heavily armored Military Predators, or the hydraulically powered Marine Exo-Suit. Every unit can be upgraded to gain new abilities and to become even more deadly.

The developers have also taken the opportunity to introduce new types of unit. These include the Predator Hydra and Alien Ravager and should remain within the possibility of the franchises. The weapons are varied and include Pulse Rifles, Spear guns, Blazer cannons, and the Exosuit equipped with twin miniguns while it will also be possible to use the Commtech's orbit launched air strike.

Aliens Vs Predator: Extinction isn't one of the most exciting games on EA's schedule, only due to the fact that it remains an unknown in the gameplay department. The graphics are shaping up nicely enough and the license should generate some interest from the fans. Expect an Australian release in early August.
