There's the team.
Area 51. One of the most unsecret secrets in the world. We all know it's a military base in Nevada, America. What people don't know is exactly what goes on in that base. Yes, it is where they designed the Stealth technology apparently, but if rumours are to be believed it's also home to alien artifacts and possibly bodies of little green men. It comes as little surprise then that a game company sets a game in this environment. Midway and Inevitable (who developed The Hobbit and Tribes: Aerial Assault on PS2) have almost completed development on this title, and it's one of the best looking games on PS2. In fact the game was featured at Sony's E3 Presentation this year showing how much confident Sony has in the title. Sadly details regarding this game are a little thin on the ground at this stage but Midway have announced some details about Area 51.

These really are awesome graphics.
Area 51 is the only action-packed 1st person shooter set in the U.S. governments' most secret and secure military facility. Take on the role of Specialist Ethan Cole, a hazardous materials specialist sent in by the U.S. Army to investigate a highly volatile biohazard situation. Explore, investigate and battle through Area 51, where futuristic Alien enemies, powers, and weaponry await you. Discover the truth about the extraterrestrial crash at Roswell, the faked lunar landing, Alien autopsies and more as you explore the reality of these chilling conspiracies. Your survival, and that of the entire world, rests on your ability to remain human and solve the enigma of Area 51 before a viral mutagen mutates all life on Earth.

Check out the blood.
Online gameplay is also promised in Area 51, and with up to 8-players online the game is certain to get the blood racing. Obviously being a First Person Future this game is well suited to online gameplay.

In recent times Midway seems to be providing some very mature content, and Area 51 is no exception. We can only hope that the game, which was first announced way back in August 2002, includes online gameplay when it makes it to Australia. Presumably Red Ant will be distributing the title here - do they have the finances to build a server? Let's hope. Expect a worldwide release around May 2005.
