Well, no screenshots yet but I can assure you that this is one very hot game. Almost everybody would have seen, or at the very least, heard about the four Alien movies. The first was, and still is, one of the scariest movies of all time and the sequel, Aliens, is probably among the best action movies of all time. Sadly, Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection were a little disappointing, but still very solid movies nontheless. In recent years however the Alien universes have been superbly transported into some great video games on the Super Nintendo, PSOne and PC. Playstation 2 owners are about to receive their own Alien based game called Aliens Colonial Marines.
As a squad leader in the Colonial Marine Corps, you command a squad of battle-hardened marines challenged in unlocking the origins of the Xenomorph alien species. You will experience heart-pounding action where your wits and skills as well as those of your squad, are your only means to survive the terror of the alien threat. We can expect plenty of references and items from the movies, as well as prenty of scares.
This squad based First Person Shooter has been in development for some time now and already has an impressive feature list. The game includes 3 campaigns and 20 missions - the player must accomplish specific objectives, such as rescuing a captured teammate, in order to succeed and advance. It also contains 5 massive environments - ranging from the military ship USS Sulaco to the remote home planet of the alien nation. ACM is very much squad-based gameplay which lets you set up 4 different unit formations and issue commands to each member of your team.
Not only does ACM contain aliens from the movies such as face-huggers, chest-bursters, soldier aliens, and Alien Queens, but it also contains all-new never before-seen aliens. As you would expect no FPS is complete without a powerful array of weapons. In this game that includes smart guns with auto-tracking ammo, pulse rifles, flame throwers and grenades.
The only doubt I have with the game is that it's being developed by Check-Six Games, a new development team. However the company is made up of people who have worked on titles like Mechwarrior 2 and Heavy Gear 2 on PC. Still, with the game now pushed into March 2002, and Electronic Arts overseeing development, there is plenty of time, and expertese, to perfect the game. With one of the most amazing, and scary, sci-fi universes ever seen in a video game and some kick-ass action Aliens: Colonial Marines should be awesome.
