Developer of the Dark Souls and Armored Core titles, From Software, has been bought by Kadokawa for an undisclosed amount of money with a deal set to finalise on May 21. Kadokawa is primarily a publishing house for books and films but have moved into video games in recent years.

Sony have confirmed that PS4 Firmware 1.70 will be released from April 29. This is a fairly substantial update with a large focus on sharing with an ability to edit videos before uploading, being able to copy files to USB, and capture over HDMI with the HDCP encryption turned off. We would expect plenty more little goodies too - hopefully MP3 playback too!?
According to reports online information about Evolution Studios delayed racer Driveclub, including a release date, will be announced within a few weeks - we'll put some money on a big E3 showing.

Avalanche Studios have released a new trailer for Mad Max with the big news being a 2015 release date - the game had been expected to be released this year. Having said that the new film Mad Max: Fury Road starring Tom Hardy is due to hit cinemas in May next year.
BandaiNamco has announced that Tales of Xillia 2 will be released in Europe on August 22, and a couple of days earlier on August 19 in America.
Microsoft have finally announced that the XBox One will be released in Japan on September 4, 2014. Of course the XBox has always struggled in that territory, however it's an important step for the company to get Japanese developers on board. Still, is it too late giving the PS4 a massive lead? Time will tell.

Codemasters have today announced that GRID: Autosport will be released on Playstation 3 on June 27th. Yes, that's next month but strangely the game also won't be released on next-gen consoles. Expect plenty more details soon.

Sony has confirmed that Octodad: Dadliest Catch will be released on April 23rd on the Playstation Store. The game will cost $AU20.15 here in Australia.
Sony have announced the May freebie games on Playstation Plus, and it's an impressive list. PS4 owners will get Stick it to the Man! - an adventure game from Zoink! PS3 owners will get Puppeteer and Payday 2 while PS3 owners will get side-scrolling RPG Muramasa Rebirth and Everybody's Golf. All games will go live on April 30 when the current freebies are removed.

Sony has announced that they have sold through 7 million Playstation 4 consoles around the globe (well, in 72 countries) as at April 6, 2014. PS4 software sales also remain strong with more than 20.5 million copies sold in retail stores worldwide and through digital downloads on PlayStation Store as of April 13, 2014. More then 120 PS4 games are in development for release for the remainder of the year.
Blu-Ray Review The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is the second film in the Hunger Games series, and was a phenomenal hit at the cinemas. The film is now available on Blu-Ray (and DVD or Instant Video of course). This is a fantastic release well worth checking out.

Those of you into blocky games will be pleased to hear that Minecraft is getting a disc based released in Europe and Australia on May 14. This is an interesting move given online connectivity for the game, but the disc based version will include everyting up to and including update 14, including Emeralds, Ender Chests, potatoes and more. The game is also being developed for PSVita and PS4 however there is no word yet on release dates for those versions - or if they will also come to retail but we suspect that will depend on PS3 retail success.
Sony has announced they are selling all remaining stock in Square-Enix. That's an impressive 9,520,000 shares worth about 4.8 billion yen, or around $AU50 million. Interestinly for gamers it may see the Japanese RPG giant move towards more multiplatform development in future - maybe.

Sony has announced over 1 million copies of inFamous: Second Son after only 9 days on sale for the PS4. This puts the third game in the franchise as the fastest selling yet, and is a big boost for Sony's newest console.
PS4 Review LovelaceIS next-generation. This game is an absolute stunner and certainly the best looking video game we've ever seen on a console. Fortunately developers Sucker Punch have delivered an entertaining game worth replaying. In short, if you own a PS4, this is the first truly "must have" game.

Blu-Ray Review The Family is a very exciting film for fans of cinema. With Luc Besson directing, Martin Scorsese producing and starring Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer and Tommy Lee Jones we expected a lot from this film. Sadly it doesn't quite hit the mark, but is probably worth a rental.

2K Games have announced that Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel will be released on last-gen system (that's right, there's no PS4 version incoming!). The game is set between the events of Borderlands and Borderlands 2 and is being co-developed by Gearbox Software and 2K Australia. The game, as the press release states "launches players to Pandora’s moon to experience wild, gravity-bending gunfights in zero-atmosphere environments using an array of all-new weaponry. For the very first time, fans play on the other side as four new playable characters contributing to the rise of the Hyperion Corporation. Fighting alongside Handsome Jack, players witness his transformation into the megalomaniacal tyrant that fans loved to hate in Borderlands 2." Expect a release in Spring (Q'3) 2014.

Ubisoft have today released a "Yoshitaka Amano Artwork Trailer" for Child of Light which looks at the gorgeous artwork. In fact, the more we see of this game the keener we are to check it out in a few weeks.
Activision have today released a new trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 whcih is hitting consoles in Australia on May 7th. Certainly doesn't look like the greatest game ever, graphically at least, but if the gameplay is decent it could provide some fun...
