So here she is, the reason why I haven't got a PS4 yet (although I will pick it up today), and the reason why reviews of the launch titles may be delayed by a few days... Anyway here's Sophie Abigail Warner, the newest member of the Futuregamez team!

November 29, 2013

So today, Friday November 29 has been a very exciting day for many people, but perhaps none moreso then myself. Not only is today the day that next-generation gaming arrives in the form of the Playstation 4, but it also sees the birth of my first child, a gorgeous young girl we've named Sophie Abigail Warner. Born at 9.59am this morning both mum and bub are doing very well.

Of course this has meant a very limited amount of time for me to test out the Playstation 4 - in fact, I won't get a chance to even unbox and play with it until tomorrow. But as any parent would know, everything comes second to a child and I'm learning that very quickly. Never fear the PS4 reviews will be coming thick and fast in a couple of days time so stay tuned. Oh, and I don't even have a photo with me of Sophie to put on the site yet. Stay tuned... and keep on gaming!

    PS3 Review
Of course the Playstation 4 launch is only 4 days away now for Europe and Australia and while we can't talk about Europe the system is pretty much a sellout in Australia. In fact, we haven't been able to locate any stores confirming they will have Day 1 stock available with all systems pre-ordered months ago. Having said that here's a tip - if you are looking for a system on launch and haven't pre-ordered we suggest you head to local "non-game" shops. Places like Target, K-Mart, Myer, BIG W where pre-orders may not be picked up or stock may be held back for ads. Large game shops like EB Games and JB Hi-Fi are less likely to have stock. Oh, in late December a PS4/Killzone bundle will also be released, so perhaps enquire about that one as they haven't sold out in some stores such as BIG W. Good luck.

NHL 14 is a title that needs no introduction - it's Ice Hockey. It has been a couple of years since we tackled EA's Ice Hockey franchise but in the twilight of the PS3 life-cycle this latest release is no slouch. In fact, it's a very entertaining release and one which is definately worth considering adding to your collection.

    PS3 Preview
Diablo 3 has been a phenomenally successful action RPG which has been available on PC for some time now, and ported to PS3 recently. Fortunately for next-gen gamers the title is also heading to the Playstation 4 next year. Here's an early look and this very exciting title.

    XBox One News
Microsoft have announced that the XBox One sold on million units in less then 24 hours. While that may make it seem like a bigger success then the recent PS4 launch the difference here is that Microsoft's number is worldwide (well, North America and Europe) while Sony's is only North America. The PS4 launches in Europe and Australia later this week.

    PS4 News
Sony's European Playstation Blog has confirmed that the previous PS4 launch title Tiny Brains will actually miss the launch and will instead be released on December 11. That's not too bad and will get the neat looking title away from the launch glut of titles. A new trailer for the co-op puzzle game is below...

    XBox One News
Well tomorrow is the day when the XBox One launches and the next-generation console war finally gets under way. Of course we're big Sony fans here, so the PS4 is our console of choice, but the current gen (PS3/360) is almost tied exactly in console sales, with Sony only taking the lead in recent months. Looking at store shelves the XBox One appears to have more games, however the Playstation 4 has significantly more titles available digitally only, and more bigger titles due in 2014 then Microsoft's console. Either way, it's great to see the industry invigorated with new hardware.

    PS3 News
Rockstar have today announced the "Beach Bum Update" for GTA Online. Rather then rehash what's included here's some snippits from the press release...

The Beach Bum content comes via a free update to GTA Online and Grand Theft Auto V's Story Mode as part of the latest automatic Title Update (1.06), so just fire up your console to download it. Alongside additional game tuning (see details below), the Beach Bum update includes:

Take on new Beach Bum Races with the BF Bifta dune buggy, the rugged Canis Kalahari off-road truck or the Bravado Paradise beach camper van. For aquatic-based endeavors, the classic Speeder speedboat is also now available. All four vehicles can also be accessed in Story Mode and are available at no in-game cost. To access them in GTA Online, just visit the in-game website (or for the Speeder).

Also available in both Story Mode and Online (and at no additional in-game cost) are the new SNS Pistol & Broken Bottle - a pair of close range weapons perfect for any beach blanket brouhaha.

This update also features a wide array of new apparel - everything from casual canvas hats to tank tops, t-shirts, board shorts and bikinis in a wide range of styles and colors... plus new hairstyle and tattoo customization options.

In conjunction with today's Beach Bum update, we're also adding 30 new Jobs to GTA Online today. This includes new beach-themed Races, Deathmatches, Parachutes, Last Team Standings and Gang Attacks, plus the beachfront "Survival on Del Perro Pier" and more.

    PS3 Review
Rain is a PS3 exclusive download-only title which has actually been out for a couple of weeks now. Still we only just received a review code, and we've played through the game to bring you our thoughts. This is artistically gorgeous, but ultimately slightly disappointing title.

    PS4 News
If you live in America then you may be happy to hear that a demo of NBA Live 14 is available for next-gen consoles from November 22 (and we assume November 29 in Europe for PS4). That will give you a chance to see how good, or bad, the game actually is (in fact, from what we've heard we highly suggest you check the demo out before buying the game!).

    PS4 News
NamcoBandai have announced that Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster will be released in Australia (and Europe we suspect) on March 20, 2014. This is a little later then anticipated but yar, it's looking pretty nice. Check out the new "Saving Spira" trailer below...

    PS3 Review
Madden NFL 25 is the latest annual release in Electronic Arts' long-running American Football franchise. Indeed, as suggested by the name this year this is in fact the 25th year for this franchise, and we expected something special. Michael gives us his full impressions.

    PS3 Review
Call of Duty: Ghosts has been released like clockwork. Just like the previous half dozen years we have a new shooter from Activision in their massively successful title. This year Infinity Ward are back on development duties and have provided us with an all-new storyline to follow and a couple of new game modes. As expected this is another great release in one of this generations best franchises. A review.

November 15, 2013

So this is it! Playstation 4 launches today in America while we here in Australia and our friends in Europe only have 2 more weeks to wait. Sony are having a big conference streaming live on SpikeTV as the PS4 launches in America, and there were a couple of big announcements...

    • First up is some new DLC for the PS3 game, The Last of Us. Called Left Behind Ellie is now with another young female friend. It's due in early 2014.
    • Naughty Dog also showed off another trailer for... Uncharted. No gameplay, no details, but yes, the franchise is coming to PS4.
    • A new trailer for inFamous: Second Son with a release date announcement of March 21, 2014.
    • A brief video showing off the Playstation tech lab unveiled two interesting things - eye tracking is being worked on and Sony are working with NASA/JPL for space related projects.
    • New trailer shown for Bungie's Destiny. Running in-engine it's pretty nice with a Beta due in Q'2 and coming first to PS3 and PS4 owners, with the full game getting a 2014 release.
    • Hideo Kojima is there for MGSV: Ground Zeroes and showed off the exclusive "Deja Vu" mission where you can play as the classic Snake. The game is coming in (US) Spring 2014 (so Q'2).

So do you want to see what the rather secretive User Interface looks like on the PS4? Well Sony have released a 10-minute video with Eric Lempel detailing what to expect from the UI on the new console.

    PS4 News
Well this is pretty last minute, but Trine 2: Complete Story is now set to be a PS4 launch title in Europe on November 29. No only will the game run at 1080p, and at 60fps but also be the first game to include 3D support on Sony's console. Below is the launch trailer for the game...

Ubisoft have announced that their recently release Rayman Legends will be coming to PS4 with a release date (in America) for February 2014. European release, we expect, won't be far behind.

November 12, 2013

    PS4 News
Well there's only 3 days until the Playstation 4 launch in America, and Sony have confirmed that there will be a pre-launch show where several announcements will be made including one from Hideo Kojima related to Metal Gear Solid. Stay tuned, and oh, if you haven't pre-ordered in Australia you'll need to shop around to even get a system pre-Christmas.

    PS3 Review
Dragon's Crown is the latest game from Japanese developers Vanillaware and publishers Atlus. This is an old-school beat 'em up which Michael has played through and while he found it a little grindy he had some fun. Here's his full review of this new release.

    PS4 News
So if you've been wondering what is inside the PS4 box exactly, well Wired have as series of photos showing off the consoles innards. Check it out here.

    PS3 Review
Beyond: Two Souls is the latest game from French developer Quantic Dream who previously brought us Heavy Rain. This is yet antother feather in the companies cap with one of the most visually stunning games, or is that interactive movies, ever seen. Either way this is impressive.

    Personal/Site Update News
Remember last week I told you that I'd been pretty crook for a few days, well after seemingly getting better things got a lot worse. First of all I was struck with something so I couldn't put any weight on my foot at all and ended up in hospital getting tests and X-Rays - even the docs couldn't work out what was wrong. At least though I would be ok to review games right? Well yes, I would have except 2 days later my eyes started to sting and I couldn't even look at a TV or computer screen for more then 30 seconds with sharp pain. That made it impossible to play games, review them, or even read press releases to update the news. Good news though, I'm on the mend now so site updates will, we promise, resume in the next day or two just in time for the next-gen launches.

    Next-Gen News
In what can only be seen as a massive blow for Microsoft's next-gen gaming credentials Activision have confirmed that Call of Duty: Ghosts runs at 1080p resolution on Playstation 4, but only 720p on the XBox One. This comes only days after Eurogamer confirmed that Battlefield 4 runs at 1600 x 900 on Playstation 4, but only 1280 x 720p resolution on XBox One - giving the PS4 a 50% resolution increase as well as a slight frame rate win as well. Of course Microsoft have countered confirming that Forza 5 runs at 1080p at 60fps - which is nice, but it looks like the PS4 will, ultimately, be the much more powerful console.

    PS4 News
Sony Europe (and America) have released a Playstation 4 FAQ which answers some of the most interesting questions about the system. The full FAQ is available here but the main points are highlighted below:

    • The PS4 will not allow you to play MP3 music files and DLNA will not be supported either! This is a major step backwards from the PS3, and it's clear Sony are trying to push people to pay to use Music Unlimted. (Update: It seems these may be added back later, or at least Shuhei Yoshida has hinted at it in recent tweets seen here. He stated that "Thanks for the feedback to the lack of MP3 and DLNA support at the launch of PS4. I'll share with the PS4 Dev team for future consideration." and then followed that with "Had a very good discussion w the PS4 Dev team today. We're happy & appreciative to learn so many people use and like PS3's media features.")
    • CD's will not be playable on the PS4.
    • It is not possible to connect an external HDD to the system for storage.
    • It is possible to replace the 500GB internal HDD with another unit, as long as it is under 9.5mm in thickness and at least 160GB (although why you'd downgrade to something smaller then that provided we'll never know).
    • Your Friendslist has been increased from a maximum of 100 to 2000 people, and it's possible to have your real name displayed now.
