    PS3 News
Disney has confirmed that Warren Spector's Junction Point Studio has been closed after 8 years in operation. The studio is most well know for their two recent Epic Mickey games, including the second one which hit PS3. Sadly the games never met expectations, nor the license. Still, it's sad to see any studio close down.

As many of you would be aware THQ's recent asset auction ended up with a big surprise - no one bought the Darksiders IP, nor the developer Vigil Games. A shame as they are a great developer, but there's some light with Crytek confirming they have grabbed the 'core' staff of about 35 people to create Crytek USA. THQ boss (well, for a bit longer) Jason Rubin confirmed the news, but also that the Darksiders and Red Faction IP's are still to be sold off.

Ubisoft Montreal CEO Yannis Mallat has stated to IGN that the Prince of Persia franchise is being paused for now. In short, don't expect any new games in the franchise soon - and we expect certainly not this generation.

    Industry News
As Sony are experiencing with the PSVita, and Nintendo did with the 3DS at launch, selling a new console these days isn't the sure bet it may have once been. Reports recently that the Nintendo Wii U was struggling have now been confirmed with Nintendo revising their expected 5.5 million sales from launch to the end of March down to 4 million units.

    PS3 News
We missed this one the other day but Capcom have announced that their previous Nintendo 3DS only Resident Evil: Revelations will be releasing on home consoles, including PS3, in May - but no mention of the PSVita sadly. The game will see an improvement to the visuals (including lighting) and audio as well as "a terrifying new enemy, extra difficulty mode and improvements to Raid Mode such as new weapons, skill sets and the opportunity to play as Hunk and other characters from the series."

    PS3 Review
DmC Devil May Cry is a very interesting release. Capcom has taken the bold step and rebooted this franchise, and with a new development team (that being Ninja Theory in the UK) there are some big changes. This is, though, a stunning title which action fans should check out.

    Queensland Superstorm News
Well it has been an interesting 48 hours with the ex-Tropical cyclone Oswald smashing into Central and South East Queensland with torrential rain, howling winds often above 100km/hr and even mini-tornados ripping throught several towns. It's been a pretty wild ride, but fortunately we've managed to get through unscathed here. With massive floods due to hit several towns in the coming days, including Bundaberg and Brisbane, things are going to go on for a bit, and now the superstorm is heading into NSW and towards Sydney.

In Queensland, apparently 220,000 homes were without power - caused by around 1700 downed power lines, Telstra's phone system including emergency lines as well as Internet has crashed in many areas, trains won't be running between Brisbane and the Gold Coast on Tuesday, and over 200 schools will be closed for the first day of the school year tomorrow/Tuesday as well - and yes that includes St Hilda's School where I work although I need to go in apparently! Anyway for those who have lost loved ones (so far three people are reported dead) and the thousands that have damaged or destroyed homes our thoughts go out to you.

    Australia Day/Queensland Superstorm News
Well tomorrow is Australia day, and we hope everyone has a great day off. Unfortunately for those of us that live in Queensland it appears we're going to get hit by a massive storm which is the remnants of a Tropical Cyclone. The Bureau is predicting large amounts of rain and strong winds for pretty much the bottom half of Queensland. Time to batton down the hatches folks.

    PS3 News
Electronic Arts have announced that the multiplayer Beta for Crysis 3 will be released on January 29 and will include two team-based modes and two maps. The full game is due in late February.

January 22, 2013

    PS3 News
Well we now have two more titles slapped with an R18+ rating in Australia following the Wii U game last week, but the next two are PS3 bound. The first is Ubisoft's Spartacus Legends which is due out soon on Playstation Network. The game has the consumer advice of "High Impact Bloody Violence". What's new on the Classification Board site though is a table that breaks down the strengh of Themes, Violence, Language, Drug Use, Nudity and Sex. The review can be seen here.

Next up is probably the first potential Triple-A title to get the adult rating - that being Electronic Arts' Army of Two: The Devils Cartel which has the consumer advice "High Impact Violence". Check out the decision here.

Looking forward to Dead Space 3? Yar, so are we and today Electronic Arts have announced a rather cool bonus for gamers that have also played (and have a save file on their system) for Mass Effect 3. If you've played Bioware's RPG then you will find the N7 Armour as wearable in the upcoming horror game. You can check out a trailer below...

    PS4 News
While we all await Sony and Microsoft's next-generation announcements Kaz Hirai has hinted that the PS4 (or whatever it will be called) may not be released until after Microsoft's console by stating in The Times that "Why go first, when your competitors can look at your specifications and come up with something better?" We still expect both companies will launch systems in late 2013/early 2014.

January 20, 2013

    PS3 News
As we all know Playstation 3 The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim fans have been pretty much screwed over for DLC - due to technical issues the download content has never been made available for Sony's console, but that will change with Bethesda confirming that the three DLC packs called Dragonborn, Hearthfire and Dawnguard will be released in February, and (in America at least) will launch at half price for the first week.

January 19, 2013

    PS3 News
Been playing games for quite a while now? If so the game Mad Dog McCree may ring a bell with publisher Digital Leisure confirming the game will be released on PSN with Move compatability, remastered footage, new game modes, four player support and a new scoring system.

Sony have announced that God of War Ascension will receive a single player demo in February, with more details to be announced in the upcoming weeks. To celebrate they've released a nice little trailer too which you can enjoy below...

    PS3 News
Mindscape Australia and Konami have confirmed that a three stage demo for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will be released on the Playstation store on January 23 - that being next Wednesday night (so unless you stay up late, probably January 24 here). Huzzah!

Sticking with Mindscape Australia for a few moments and the company has confirmed that the RPG Atelier Ayesha: The Alchemist of Dusk from developers Gust, will be released in Australia on March 8. The game follows the story of Ayesha Altugle, a girl who has been living alone in a secluded workshop ever since her grandfather died and her younger sister went missing a few years ago. She supports herself by making and selling medicine. As the story begins, she finds out that her younger sister IS alive somewhere in the world. Now, she must devote herself to finding her younger sister. Her journey to keep her promise begins...

WB Games have announced that Injustice: Gods Among Us will be released in Australia on April 17.

    Blu-Ray Review
Mass Effect: Paragon Lost is a release that should have almost every gamer, or at least fans of Bioware's massively successful RPG, salavating. Created in Japan and in anime form, this is an interesting film that fills in more back story and focuses on the character from Mass Effect 3, Vega. Worth your time though? We're not quite so sure but here's our review.

January 15, 2013

    Blu-Ray News
Some pretty epic news has just been announced - Universal Sony Pictures Australia will be releasing Steven Spielberg's Schindlerís List 20th Anniversary Edition on Blu-Ray on April 3rd, 2013. In our minds this is one of Spielberg's greatest films, and certainly his most important. Technical details haven't been announced, other then the film is being "digitally restored" for Blu-Ray, and will sell here for $29.95rrp.

WIN The Expendables 2 on Blu-Ray - Yes, you read that right the most kick-ass film this side of the original Expendables delivers everything it promises. More guns, more explosions, more action stars. Thanks to Village Roadshow we have 5 copies of The Expendables 2 on Blu-Ray to give away so make sure you enter now.

January 14, 2013

    PS3 News
According to reports sales of Playstation 3 have now surpassed the XBox 360 - 77 million units to 76 million. Given the head start that the Microsoft system had, and then the Playstation Store hack this is a phenomenal effort, but with a tonne of triple-A titles due out for Sony's console in 2013 we expect this lead to only widen from now on. Well done Sony.

CCP Games have confirmed that Dust 514 - the game that connects to the PC MMO EVE Online will go into Open Beta on January 22. It's definately worth checking out - hell, it's free to play so why not!

    2012 Awards

January 9, 2013

    PS3 News
NamcoBandai have confirmed that their highly anticipated Level-5 developed RPG Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch will be released in Australia on January 31. This is a week later then expected, but the reason is nothing more then logistics (which means manufacuring or shipping).

    PS3 Release Schedule
We'll now that the New Year has flown by, it's time to look at the 2013 releases, and if you thought things were slowing down with next-generation (possibly) approaching rapidly, then think again. 2013 is already shaping up as a cracker year and we've updated our release schedule. You can see our PS3 Release Schedule Page for the full list.

    Blu-Ray Review
The Expendables 2 has what must be the best list of action stars ever assembled. Stallone, Statham, Schwarzenegger, Willis, Li, Norris, and Van Damme. Who else do you need in a classic action film? Not only does it have this exceptional cast, but it's a cracker film too. Here's our full Blu-Ray review (oh, and keep an eye out for our comp too!).

January 8, 2013

    PS3 Review
Guardians of Middle Earth was released prior to Christmas however it seems that, at this stage, a few weeks after release, Guardians of Middle-Earth has struggled to generate sales, at least if the lack of online players is an indication. Still, here's Michael's review of this action game released, no doubt, to time in with the release of The Hobbit in cinemas.

January 7, 2013

    Sony News
Well this little tidbit slipped us by over the Christmas break. Sony have confirmed that they have stopped production on the Playstation 2 console and shipments to Japanese retailers ended on December 28, 2012. Released on March 4, 2000 in Japan (and November 2000 in Europe/Australia), the console has shifted a mammoth 155 million units (as of March 2012) and a catalogue of over 10,000 titles. The question now? What will those production lines be used for? Playstation 4 anyone?

    Industry News
Well this might be the most ridiculous thing we've ever heard. According to reports those with a Nintendo Wii U console may want to watch what they purchase online. Apparently any games purchased - and these can include full retail ones - are tied to the Unique ID of the console, rather then the user. So if you sell the console, there goes your game collection too - there's no way to tie it to your user ID! Listen quietly... you can hear the uproar growing already (well you would if it was on a Sony or Microsoft console - we're not sure how savvy Nintendo fanboys are given the big N's disliking for online anything)!

    Blu-Ray Review
Flying Monsters 3D is the latest documentary hosted by Sir David Attenborough and is exactly as it sounds, a documentary about flying dinosaurs. Having said that this is also in 3D and impressive if you have a TV that supports it, but if you are stuck with 2D it's still worth a look.

January 6, 2013

    Industry News
Sony have announced they will be holding a Destination Playstation event from February 25-28 in Scottsdale, Arizona. The event is for retailers to see upcoming games, but what makes this interesting is that it's in the year of an expected PS4 announcement and potential release. Could retailers be getting a sneak peek at Sony's new console? It's possible.

A couple of days Steam users noticed that all of Activision's James Bond based titles went missing from the store. Now a reason has come out, apparently Activision's license for games based on the franchise has expired (We expect at the end of 2012). How does that affect PS3 owners? Well we guess that PS3 titles may also become scarce so if you're after some James Bond action get in quick.

As we all know THQ have pretty much gone kaput - and a week or so ago Ubisoft emerged as a potential buyer, if not for the company then some of the IP's or studios at least. Reports from the US Bankruptcy Court proceedings in Delaware have noted that there are up to 5 interested parties, and Warner Brothers Interactive has been added to the list.

January 5, 2013

    Blu-Ray Review
Fire With Fire is an action film starring Josh Duhamel (from Transformers), Bruce Willis (Die Hard) and Rosario Dawson (Sin City) and sees a man going into witness protection before testifying against a crime lord. Of course things go wrong... A review.

January 3, 2013

    Blu-Ray Review
The Amazing Spider-man is a release with several interesting points not least of which is the fact that Sony are rebooting the franchise. In our opinion rebooting a franchise only a couple of years old? Bad idea. I hated it. But this latest film really is quite fantastic and definately worth checking out in - in 2D or 3D.

January 2, 2013

    Industry News
Well was a big New Years Eve for millions of Australians, but perhaps one which Australian gamers will remember for another reason - the change of year brought with it a change of legislation in Australia which now sees an R18+ rating introduced for games. We're unsure which game will be the first likely candidate for the higher rating, but it's important to note that games rated and released prior to January 1 2013 can not appealed against and re-classified up from MA15+ to R18+ for two years since their original classification (I say this as I've had a couple of e-mail asking if "Game X" will be re-rated). No doubt the first R18+ game in Australia will get plenty of media coverage.

    PS3 News
Electronic Arts have confirmed they will be shutting down the online servers for many of their older titles on January 11. PS3 games affected include FIFA 11, Madden NFL 11, NBA Jam, NBA Live 10, NCAA Football 11, and NHL 11. What surprises is the closure of NBA Live 10 as EA have stated that ""But as games get replaced with newer titles, the number of players still enjoying the older games dwindles to a level -- fewer than 1% of all peak online players across all EA titles -- where it's no longer feasible to continue the behind-the-scenes work involved with keeping these games up and running." - but given EA don't have a newer NBA title it will leave NBA fans in the cold - perhaps they could recommend everyone goes and buys 2K's phenomenally good NBA 2K13.

According to the Official XBox Magazine in America the upcoming Tomb Raider reboot (currently in development at Crystal Dynamics) will include multiplayer modes. Details will be released on January 8 when the magazine hits shelves (and we're assuming the PS3 version will also include multiplayer of course), but we do know the multiplayer is being developed by Eidos Montreal.

Pencil in January 24 to visit the Playstation Store as Electronic Arts releasing a demo for Dead Space 3. The full game is due out worldwide in early February.

    We're Back
Well the message says it all really. We're back on board for plenty of 2013 news and events - not least of which may be the launch of PS4 later in the year. Anyway we're eagerly working away on a couple of reviews we didn't squeeze in pre-Christmas, and are working on our 2012 Awards which will kick off in a day or two. Expect regular updates to commence late today, or tomorrow.
